In the IT industry the biggest problem we regularly face is the abundance of choice. We have tons of frameworks, languages, tools, platforms, etc. Although for competition purposes; multiple choices are ultimately very good but we usually find ourselves in paralysis when we have to choose among them for our next project.
People usually still consider that (frontend) of web applications are created by mixing together HTML, CSS & JavaScript without giving any thoughts about the frontend architecture, workflow and testing; but things have definitely changed now since last couple of years and in this presentation I try to explain that how JavaScript and it’s related stuff has become first class citizen and how the new workflow looks like. And I will also explain that how the architecture of modern web applications is migrating from thick server-side applications to smart clients and services on their journey North to pure Microservices.

What Visual Studio Code can do for Java Development

Zalenium - How to run Selenium Script using Docker and Selenium Grid
Moataz Nabil presented on using Zalenium to run Selenium scripts across multiple browsers and machines using Docker and Selenium Grid. Zalenium provides a dynamic Selenium Grid that scales using docker-selenium containers and can send non-supported capabilities to cloud testing providers. It is simple to set up, getting a grid running in a few seconds. Zalenium also provides live previews and recorded videos of test runs for debugging. Moataz demonstrated Zalenium's one line installer, enabling Sauce Labs integration, live preview dashboard, and when Zalenium would be useful to use, such as for local development, CI environments, or combining with cloud testing providers.

They represent a big architectural change to what web developers are used to: moving from server-side MVC to a browser based one. This document discusses single-page internet applications (SPI apps) and their implementation using Grails. SPI apps use JavaScript for their model, views, and controllers in the browser, communicating with a REST API on the server. While SPI apps provide faster loading and a better user experience, they require replicating the MVC pattern in JavaScript. Grails 3.0 will support different profiles including REST that simplify the server-side logic. Popular JavaScript frameworks like AngularJS and Ember.js provide similar features to Grails like models, views/templates, and controllers. The TodoMVC site demonstrates these frameworks.

Devops - Continuous delivery patterns with serverless stack
The key pattern introduced in continuous delivery is the deployment pipeline. This pattern emerged from several projects where teams were struggling with complex, fragile, painful manual processes for preparing testing and production environments and deploying builds to them. Team already worked to automate a significant amount of the regression and acceptance testing, but it was taking weeks to get builds to integrated environments for full regression testing, and our first deployment to production took an entire weekend.

Building a µservice with Kotlin, Micronaut & GCP
