Menstrual Man, also known as Arunachalam Muruganantham, is a social entrepreneur from India who invented a low-cost sanitary pad making machine. His machine can manufacture sanitary pads for less than a third of the cost of commercial pads. He was inspired to create an affordable sanitary product after discovering his wife used unhygienic rags during her period due to the high cost of commercial pads. Though ostracized for his experiments, his invention has provided livelihoods for many women in India and helped generate discussion about menstruation in a country where it remains a taboo topic.
