The Asian Apprenticeship Awards has completed its third year in operation since being founded in 2016, and our aim hasn’t changed: to celebrate the talent and diversity of British Asian Apprentices, their Employers and Training Providers.Since inception, we have noticed a significant transition among those within the skills sector about some of the stigmas behind apprenticeships within British Asian and BAME communities generally. Through the support of the Government and key partner organisations, we have been able to use this platform to propel our message into new communities across the country to encourage more people from British Asian communities to consider an apprenticeship route.2018 also saw a sectoral shift response with a 25% increase in involvement from employers compared with training providers and FE colleges which saw a decrease. The male and female split among finalists was quite interesting. Generally, females outweighed males in many of the sectors. However, the gender balance overall was affected by the male dominated sectors of Construction and Engineering & Manufacturing. When speaking with sector leaders, this was no surprise.“It is really disappointing to see the proportion of finalist as 100% male in Construction as well as Engineering and Manufacturing. Whilst recognising that a large proportion of the workforce in these two sectors are male there are still a significant number of females employed and many of these are excellent and well deserving of a place in the finals. We need to encourage them to come forward as entrants and show the skills and talent them possess”- Graham Hasting-EvansPresident of the British Association of Construction HeadsGroup Managing Director NOCNLastly, we saw from our data a significant increase in organisations supporting initiatives locally and nationally to raise the profile of apprenticeships within diverse communities. More people were using the platform of the Asian Apprenticeship Awards to not only encourage more people to enter and celebrate their successes but as a tool to raise awareness of diversity internally.

This document is a project report submitted by Syed Gulam Abbas Abdi for an Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Management from Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies in Pune, India in August 2014. The report studies financial inclusion in Uganda, focusing on four pillars: financial literacy, financial consumer protection, financial innovations, and financial services data and measurement. It provides an overview of each pillar, including the Bank of Uganda's strategy for financial literacy in Uganda and its financial consumer protection guidelines.
All we ask from you is to promote our programme to your stu-dents via your communication channels. As a reward for the uni-versity efforts, feature referral prospects will be made available.
The document provides information about the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management and Administration offered by the University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB) in South Africa. The one-year program can be completed through residential, mixed, or blended learning, allowing students to study while working full-time. It aims to develop general management skills with an entrepreneurial focus to prepare students for managerial roles or owning their own business. Graduates may qualify for entry into USB's MBA program or enhance their skills without pursuing a full MBA. The program combines classroom and online learning, offering flexibility to students.
YEPI Poster: Mobilizing Universities to Address the Global Crisis in Youth Un...Talloires Network
The document summarizes the Youth Economic Participation Initiative (YEPI) which aims to address youth unemployment by awarding grants to universities to develop programs that prepare students for the job market through entrepreneurship and civic engagement. YEPI received over 68 applications from 27 countries and will award 6-8 demonstration grants of $350,000-$465,000 each to universities in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to test models for linking students to jobs or self-employment through community-engaged learning. A global community of practice among Talloires Network universities will share lessons learned to strengthen university support for students' transition from education to productive economic participation.
This project aimed to provide vocational training to vulnerable people in Lusaka, Zambia to improve their employment opportunities. The project partner, Kanyama Youth Programme Trust, implemented the project and provided training facilities and local administration. 112 students graduated from vocational courses in 2006, and 58 additional students enrolled. The project strengthened the partner's training institution by improving teaching quality, marketing, and organizational capacity. External factors like currency fluctuations and unemployment impacted project implementation. The partner and local community took steps to increase sustainability through income-generating activities and donations. The project's direct beneficiaries were vocational students and the partner organization, while families and short-course participants indirectly benefited.
World Education Australia works to alleviate poverty through microfinance and skills training programs. It operates in several developing countries in Asia and Africa. Its integrated approach includes microcredit loans, livelihood and business training, and basic literacy education. This holistic model empowers individuals and strengthens communities by providing financial inclusion and opportunities for self-employment. World Education Australia measures success through high repayment rates and the multiplier effects of its interventions that support broader economic and social development.

INJAZ Al-Arab is a non-profit organization that promotes entrepreneurship education among Arab youth through hands-on training programs. It has reached over 1.8 million students across 14 countries in the Middle East and North Africa. INJAZ's signature program is the JA Company Program, where high school and university students gain real-world business experience by creating and operating their own companies over an academic year with guidance from local business volunteers. Evaluations show INJAZ alumni have higher employment rates and are more likely to start their own businesses compared to peers without this training.
This project aims to develop the Kanyama Youth Programme (KYP) vocational training centre in Lusaka, Zambia over 2009-2011. The project seeks to enhance employment opportunities for young people, especially women, through improved and updated vocational training. This will be achieved by updating curricula to meet job market needs, improving teaching quality, integrating entrepreneurship training, and strengthening KYP's financial sustainability. The National Union of University Students in Finland and KYP have collaborated since 2003, resulting in increased employment and small business startups among graduates. However, further improvements are needed to teaching materials and equipment. If successful, this continuation project will diminish the negative impacts of poverty through expanded access to skills training.
UBC Sauder Social Entrepreneurship 101 Degree In A Day PresentationLes Robertson
The Sauder School of Business has been developing programs in Nairobi, Kenya since 2006. The main program, Social Entrepreneurship 101 (SE101), is a three-week course where students from UBC and Strathmore University (Nairobi) teach young people how to write business plans. Participants are mentored, sources of funding for the projects are identified, and businesses have been launched as a result of the program.
This presentation was created for incoming UBC students and their families. To learn about the project, and read more about the overall initiative, please visit our website: www.africa.sauder.ubc.ca
Juma Ventures is a leading youth development and employment organization based in San Francisco that helps teens complete college degrees. In addition to employment support, Juma offers an asset building and financial literacy program and a college services program. Juma has served over 2,500 teens who have earned over $1.6 million in wages to fund their college educations. While Juma's programs have measurable results, more information could be provided about the number of beneficiaries served by its college services program.
The project "Nielimishe Nijisaidie" by Moving the Goalposts used apprenticeships to help young women in Kilifi County, Kenya start their own businesses. Through the Youth to Youth Fund, over 50 vulnerable girls received entrepreneurship training and then apprenticed with mentors in hairdressing, mechanics, and other fields. This helped fill gaps in their skills and experience. Regular support during the apprenticeships led to over 90% of participants starting their own small businesses upon completion of the program.
This document proposes a school construction project in Uganda. It seeks €250,000 total with €100,000 sought from external donors. The project would construct student hostels and staff quarters to accommodate 500 students and 50 staff at Mmanze Secondary School. It aims to improve educational access and help achieve MDG2 of universal primary education. The project would be implemented over 2 years by MACERUDET, a local NGO, and aims to eventually become self-sufficient through complementary businesses at the facilities.
