3. WHAT IS INFLAMMATION?
Inflammation refers to a medical condition wherein the body
reacts to an irritation, injury, infection, malignancy, or to an
environmental change. This reaction involves instigating the
white blood cells that release a few chemicals such as
prostaglandins and cytokines. During this reaction, the influenced
tissues get inflamed that becomes evident in the form of swelling,
pain, and redness. This is actually termed as the inflammatory
response, which is actually a protective response that stops the
toxins from moving on to other tissues and cells in the body.
Although this response indicates that your body is healthy by
trying to repair the damage or by resisting the invading
pathogens, its persistent presence can result in chronic illness
marked by fever and several other discomforts. Therefore, it is
vital to treat the condition. Though several kinds of anti-
inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen and aspirin are there to
alleviate swelling, nothing seems to be safer than the effective
herbal remedies for inflammation. 5 Herbal Remedies For

5. 1.CHILI PEPPERS (CAPSAICIN)
The countless varieties of
hot peppers we have
today began as one
small shrub (Capsicum
annum), native to tropical
regions of the Americas.
The chemical capsaicin
is what makes a pepper
hot. And it’s capsaicin
that’s been shown to
have an anti-
inflammatory effect in
your body.
6. 2.RESVERATROL
This is an antioxidant found
in many plants. The highest
amounts have been found
in Japanese knot weed
(Polygonum cuspidatum)
and in the skins of red wine
grapes. Resveratrol has
been shown to be a strong
anti-inflammatory. It also
protects against DNA
damage and mutations. You
can find resveratrol as a
common supplement in
natural food stores. A
typical dosage is from 50 to
500 mg per day.
7. 3.FRANKINCENSE (BOSWELLIA SERRATA)
Boswellia is a tree variety
native to India, Somalia,
Ethiopia and the Arabian
Peninsula. Frankincense is
a resin extracted from the
trees. It has anti-
inflammatory, anti-arthritic
and pain-controlling
properties. Boswellia resin
is currently used to treat
degenerative and
inflammatory joint
disorders.
8. 4.BLACK PEPPER
This unassuming spice
actually packs an anti-
inflammatory punch. The
distinctive flavor of black
pepper comes from the
chemical piperine. Even at
low doses, piperine has
been shown to reduce
inflammation. It can inhibit
the spread of cancer and
has been shown to
suppress the perception of
pain and arthritis
symptoms.
9. 5.MARITIME PINE BARK (PYCNOGENOL)
Bark from the maritime pine
tree (Pinus maritima) can
be processed into
pycnogenol. This extract
has been used for over
2,000 years to help heal
wounds, scurvy and ulcers
as well as reducing
vascular inflammation. It is
one of the strongest
antioxidants known today.
10. 6.WHITE WILLOW BARK
White willow tree bark
has been used as a
treatment for pain and
inflammation since
ancient Egyptian and
Roman times. Many
studies have shown that
white willow bark has
a comparable effect to
aspirin, but with fewer
side effects than aspirin.
11. 7.GREEN TEA
The preventative effects of
green tea against
cardiovascular disease and
cancer are well established.
More recent studies have
shown that green tea can
be an effective anti-
inflammatory, particularly in
the treatment of arthritis. It
can also reduce
inflammation of
the digestive tract,
potentially helping
conditions like Crohn’s
disease or ulcerative colitis
12. 8.CLOVES
Native to Indonesia,
cloves are widely used in
Asian cuisine. Like the
other herbs and spices
mentioned on this list,
they too have been used
for thousands of years for
their medicinal purposes.
They’ve been used to
improve digestion, fight
cancer, fight diabetes,
and much more
13. 9.ROSEMARY
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) is
part of the mint family and has a
woody, evergreen-like scent. This
herb is often used to flavor
Mediterranean-style foods, but it
compliments a wide array of dishes.
Along with the delicious flavor that
rosemary adds to meals, it’s also
known as one of the most powerful
herbs on earth. With a laundry list of
nutrients, its top health benefits
include:
Improves memory
Soothes digestive issues
Helps relieve muscle aches and
pains

Fights cancer
Fights inflammation
14. 10.GINGER
According to the National
Institute of Health, ginger has
anti-inflammatory properties that
are very similar to Non-Steroidal
Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
(NSAIDs). The ginger root works
by inhibiting the genes or
chemicals that trigger
inflammatory response, which
include cytokines and COX-2
enzymes. This herbal remedy is
more capable of dealing with
the condition than NSAIDs
without triggering any side
effects. It is recommended to use
ginger in cooking as a spice to
deal with inflammation
effectively.
15. 11.TURMERIC
Known as Indian saffron,
turmeric is usually used in
cooking meals and making
medicines. According to a
study published in the
‘Journal of Medical
Microbiology’ in 2010,
turmeric is rich in curcumin –
a powerful constituent that
reduces lung inflammation
triggered by bacterial
pneumonia. Curcumin has
the ability to bring down the
levels of signaling molecules
that lead to inflammation.
This is the reason why
turmeric is famous today as a
very good anti-inflammatory
herb
16. 12.CAT’S CLAW (UNCARIA TOMENTOSA)
This herb is derived from a
woody vine native to Peru.
The bark of cat’s claw has
traditionally been used to
treat arthritis, bursitis and
intestinal disorders. Studies
have shown that it can
reduce inflammatory
responses in the body and
it has a protective effect
against gastrointestinal
inflammation.
17. 13. ASHWAGANDHA
Ashwagandha, an herb
that’s commonly grown
and used in Pakistan,
India, Africa, and
Spain, has a long list of
medicinal uses—anti-
stress, aphrodisiac,
immune function
booster, and many
others. But let’s focus
on its anti-inflammatory
activity.

vital nutrients like vitamin
A, B complex, vitamin C
and vitamin K. Apart from
effectively treating
digestive disorders and
kidney ailments, this herb

inflammatory problems,
and prevent inflammation
with its roster of immune
system-boosting
nutrients.
19. 15. NUTMEG
Nutmeg has been utilized
for its medicinal properties
since the 16th century.
Among its long list of health
benefits is its ability to
destroy pathogens that
cause diseases. Dr. Joseph
Pizzorno and Dr. Michael
Murray, authors of The
Encyclopedia of Healing
Foods explain that nutmeg
can effectively block more
than 25 bacteria species.
Nutmeg oil is used as
topical ointment for soothing
painful muscles and joints.
