• Each school shall designate clinic
teacher/s who shall:
 manage the clinic every school
day,
 to provide basic health services
and facilitate referral as needed,
 closely coordinate with the school
health personnel at the SDO,
 physically present at the school
clinic every day

Clinic Teacher Responsibilities
• Helps organize a functional school clinic
• Treats common ailments
• Render first aid treatment
• Provides health guidance and
counseling to pupils
• Utilizes tried and tested medicinal plants
• Isolates cases of communicable
diseases and refer to health agencies
• Identifies learners with special needs

Clinic Teacher Roles
”all schools shall designate a pool of clinic
teachers who shall be in charge of the daily
operations of the school clinic”
• Main clinic teacher
 overall in charge of the necessary
coordination of concerns related to
the operations of the school clinic
• Alternate clinic teachers
 take turns in staffing the school clinic, to
ensure daily uninterrupted operations

1.Stop the bleeding
a.Apply firm pressure
b.If animal bites and bleeding,
may press to minimally bleed
out injected venom
c. Apply tourniquet (max of
2hrs) proximal to bite site,
especially for snake bites
d.Position the site of bleeding
below the heart
2.Wash with running water and
soap
3.Apply betadine solution
4.Cover with clean gauze

1.known asthmatic & able to:
a. Talk in sentences (mild) – give
salbutamol nebule or syrup
b. Talks in phrases/words
(moderate/severe) – give salbutamol
nebule or syrup and bring to emergency
room
2. If not asthmatic, check if with known food
allergies & recent intake -> give cetirizine
10mg 1tablet 3x a day
3. Rule out foreign body ingestion
4. Refer to Health Unit/ER

1.Have patient lie down
2.Allow good airflow
3.Take vital signs and sugar
level
4.Address abnormalities in VS
or CBGs
5.May use liniments or
aromatics (ie, white flower,
etc) and induce pressure
points

If ≥ 160/100:
a. Give Clonidine 75mcg 1tablet
swallow or Captopril 25mg 1
tablet swallow
b. Have patient rest regardless if
with symptoms or not
c. Recheck BP after 15 minutes rest
d. If still ≥ 160/100, bring to ER
If ≤ 90/60:
a. Have patient lie down
b. Elevate legs
c. Bring to ER

• If CBG <100 and with
symptoms or <80
even without
symptoms, give juice
• If CBG > 250, give
missed maintenance
medication and bring
to ER

2. Advise avoidance of triggers
3.If presentation is skin lesion,
may apply clobethasone
cream
4.If with difficulty of breathing
or swallowing, facial edema,
bring to ER

  • 13. 13 1.Stop the bleeding a.Apply firm pressure b.If animal bites and bleeding, may press to minimally bleed out injected venom c. Apply tourniquet (max of 2hrs) proximal to bite site, especially for snake bites d.Position the site of bleeding below the heart 2.Wash with running water and soap 3.Apply betadine solution 4.Cover with clean gauze

Talks in phrases/words (moderate/severe) – give salbutamol nebule or syrup and bring to emergency room 2. If not asthmatic, check if with known food allergies & recent intake -> give cetirizine 10mg 1tablet 3x a day 3. Rule out foreign body ingestion 4. Refer to Health Unit/ER

  • 17. 17 If ≥ 160/100: a. Give Clonidine 75mcg 1tablet swallow or Captopril 25mg 1 tablet swallow b. Have patient rest regardless if with symptoms or not c. Recheck BP after 15 minutes rest d. If still ≥ 160/100, bring to ER If ≤ 90/60: a. Have patient lie down b. Elevate legs c. Bring to ER
  • 18. 18 • If CBG <100 and with symptoms or <80 even without symptoms, give juice • If CBG > 250, give missed maintenance medication and bring to ER
  • 19. 19 1.Give cetirizine 10mg 1tablet 2. Advise avoidance of triggers 3.If presentation is skin lesion, may apply clobethasone cream 4.If with difficulty of breathing or swallowing, facial edema, bring to ER

The designation of alternate clinic teachers is especially important in case that the main clinic teacher gets sick or gets required to undergo quarantine and cannot be physically present in the school to perform his/her tasks. The number of alternate clinic teachers will depend on the needs of the school.
