2. Strengths: The use of the figurehead in the middle of the front cover is very powerful as it’s
been cropped to the point which exemplifies a hard working student, surrounded by the
peaceful inhabitance which is the schools outside garden. Also, the use of the price in the
corner off thee page is quite well positioned as a barcode stands out from the natural
colour scheme of the page, meaning that the price that’s overshadowed by gold (an
inference of a once in a buy time opportunity) can’t be missed, thus helping the young
viewer to purchase the magazine knowing that it’s cheap. Lastly, the cover lines are spread
across the top of the page in an effective way as if they were metaphorically jumping out
the “Applied ICT” book that the student is using, hence helping portray the college on this
front cover to people in a positive way who may find academic prowess quite difficult.
Weaknesses: The weaknesses of this front cover however is that the typography is in a small
style font for one whereby it’s difficult to see within the complex of the natural background,
e.g. the text on the left side of the page that is utilized to express the leisure time students
will also gain at the college, blends in with the garden hence proving to be quite difficult for
adolescents who want to know what they get up to outside of lessons, which may prompt a
sense of unreliability in the views they receive. Furthermore, the way in which the text is
spread around the revision book is somewhat randomized when regarding the bottom
section of the page as there is no specified purpose for such cover lines but to consume
space. This wouldn’t be a problem if the cover lines where in a larger style typography and
had smaller snippets of information.

3. Effectiveness: The effectiveness of this magazine is that it creates a
positive image when surrounding a student in cover lines, which
state that the outcome of their participation in these schemes of
work at college won’t be solely based around an academic
environment, but rather around a joint enterprise between leisure
and learning.
E.g. “Apply for your daily prospectus page 3” and “Boxing club!
Indulge in all the outside enrichment”, are two exemplar pieces of
text that are effective on this front cover when considering what
every young adolescent seeks in terms of progression in life.
Changes/what didn’t work so well?: I believe that the greenish
colour of the font on the left side didn’t adhere to the theme of
presentatability when trying to persuade younger ages to try and
buy this magazine.
I’ve gathered this conclusion as if a professional piece of work was
being shown in this way, then how are academics “To be” going to
approach their selected subjects knowing what is right and wrong
in showing off their work?
