1. How did you use media technologies
in the research and planning,
construction and evaluation stages
of your coursework?

2. Media Technologies
• Modern media texts are almost all made
through the use of digital technologies. These
technologies can be broken down into three
categories, being hardware, software and
online technologies. All three of these were
used extensively in my media coursework and
it would have been impossible to make my
piece without this technology available.

3. Hardware
• Digital hardware is physical technology which
is used to create a media text. Examples of
this type of technology include:
• Video Cameras
• iMacs
• Laptops
• iPods
• Mobile phones

4. Software
• Software is programs on a computer that we
used to create our media texts. Some of these
are:
• iMovie
• Photoshop
• Word
• PowerPoint
• Phone software

5. Online Technology
• This refers to technology which is hosted
online. This type of technology was mainly
used for research, and includes sites such as:
• Blogger
• YouTube
• Picmonkey
• Social Networking sites (e.g. Facebook)

6. Research and Planning
• For the Research and Planning of my coursework piece
I mainly used online technology, using sites like
YouTube and Facebook to find music videos and get
public opinion on my plans and storyboards. Blogger
also played a part as I showed all of my planning on
here.
• I mainly used my laptop for this, as it was normally the
easiest thing to find, rather than limit how often I can
post by only using the school iMacs.
• I also used my mobile phone to plan how and when to
make my music video with people, as this was the best
way to communicate with them.

7. Construction
• For the Construction of my music video I used a
lot more hardware and software than I had in the
Research and Planning stage. I used a Panasonic
HCV500 camera to film my work, and I used the
iMacs to upload onto and edit my filming using
iMovie on them. I also used a digital camera to
take photographs for my ancillary tasks, and used
Photoshop CS3 to edit them.
• I also used my friends car for certain parts, as my
video required me to have travelling involved

8. Evaluation
• This stage of my coursework requires much more
software and online technology than hardware.
• First off I posted my video on YouTube so that I
could put it on my Blogger site. I can also use
YouTube for any evaluation posts that I want to
film.
• I can also use Prezzi and Slideshare to create
PowerPoint's that I can share online, or just make
a simple text post using Word or Notepad
