The document discusses how the media product adheres to and challenges conventions of real teen drama media. It examines how the teaser trailer, poster, and magazine cover follow typical conventions like using a high school setting in the trailer, including idents in the trailer, focusing on a pink/purple color scheme and girly aesthetics in the poster and magazine to target female audiences, and including typical elements like character images, barcodes and dates on the magazine cover. It also discusses some ways it challenges conventions, like using a simple white ident in the trailer rather than a flashy one.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Media Task 1
1. EVALUATION TASK 1
IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR
CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
2. TEASER TRAILER
We did a lot of research before starting our teaser trailer. We looked into similar genres to
see what typical conventions come up time and time again. We looked into trailers for the
following movies; Mean Girls, 16 wishes, A girl like her etc. Throughout each one of these
trailers one thing stood out in particular and this was the setting. The setting for the
majority of teen dramas are based in a high school or college's. The producers really focus
on this and make it obvious to the audience when making the teaser trailer, this worked
well for us as it meant we were able to work with the surroundings to the best of our
ability. We added a long shot of the college in our teaser trailer to show that we set it
throughout the college grounds.
3. TEASER TRAILER
Another typical thing that comes up in teaser trailers are the fact that
they all include idents. The ident is normally shown at the beginning of
the trailer and lasts a few seconds. When creating ours we didn’t want
it to stand out too much and be too much in the viewers face so we
just went for the simplistic option and made it white. We think that this
ident is simple yet effective and looks professional.
There are many idents out there and some can be related back to
certain movies by the audience for example the Pixar ident has strong
connections with the 'Monsters Inc' movies and also the Disney films.
4. TEASER TRAILER
There were a few more things that we had to consider when creating our teaser trailer. Such as;
1. The duration – We looked into various different teaser trailers and the average time was
around the 2 minute mark, some being a little over and some being a little less. Our final
teaser trailer ended up being 2 minutes. We didn’t want to make ours too long as we were
then likely to lose the audiences concentration and we may give away too much of the
storyline.
2. The editing style & music – When looking into different teen dramas we noticed that the
editing style were normally quite upbeat and they mostly use high key lighting to make it
look natural. They don’t look to create tension as film producers may do in genres such as
horror. To create an upbeat style they also mostly use modern, fast paced music that their
audience will be able to relate to. Due to this we used the reflector light to create natural
looking, high key lighting whilst filming and we also found an upbeat music track to use
when the voiceover wasn’t being used.
3. The text – We did need to insert some text throughout our teaser trailer to ensure the
audience fully understood the storyline. To make this suit the teen drama genre and also
our target audience we went for a pink/purple colour for the background. We just found
that this is most common and throughout a lot of the teen drama films and trailers they
really focus on the color scheme to target the female audience. As you can see from the
poster shown above the colour scheme is very girly. The producers will have done this as
they know the majority of their target market are going to be females.
5. POSTER COVER
When creating our poster we wanted to create a girly poster so that it
would stand out to our target audience. When looking for ideas using
other teen drama posters we noticed that the colour scheme is very
important and most of the posters use either pink or a purple colours.
This is down to the fact that after audience research you can tell that
mostly over 50% of viewers of teen dramas are females therefore it
would only make sense to use girly colours to attract them. This is why
we used pink throughout out poster and we also used 'doodles'.
Another thing that is typical to see on a poster is the billing
block usually seen on the bottom of the poster and normally also a
date of when the trailer is coming out or a 'coming soon' As you can
see we have included these two things at the bottom of our poster so
that our poster follows the normal conventions of a trailer poster. We
used poster examples such as they one above, 16 Wishes is a
teen drama genre.
6. MAGAZINE COVER
Our final magazine cover is on the next slide. As you
can see we stuck with the pink/purple theme and we
included the same two characters in order to create
brand identity. When looking into the typical
conventions of a magazine cover we found that that
there are some things that come up for almost every
magazine cover for example; the name of the
magazine, an image of something on the front cover,
barcode, date etc. We based our magazine cover on all
of these things and tried to include them all.
