The document describes the process of creating a double page spread for a music magazine. It discusses researching different music magazine genres to understand common structures and styles. The key points analyzed in magazines included written, symbolic, and technical codes. For the double page spread, the title spans both pages to indicate it is a double page article. The main image captures the theme of female empowerment. A pull quote in a large font is used to attract the reader. Overall, the spread was designed to break conventions but still relate visually to the rest of the magazine.
Heat Recovery, Pumps & Renewables
Heat Recovery and Heat Pump units both capture and/or convert naturally occurring energy and use this as a power source for either your building's ventilation, heating or hot water.
Both are proven renewable technologies and have been used throughout the heating and cooling industry for decades. Recent advances have made them ideal for both commercial and domestic use. Both can greatly reduce CO² emissions and energy costs.
Our heat recovery units are designed to save energy and improve indoor air quality by recovering heat from the transfer of warm air to cold air via exchangers. Similarly, our air source heat pumps are designed to provide hot water to either traditional radiators or under floor heating systems by converting outdoor air to heat energy.
An effective building ventilation solution has become critical in recent years as a result of increased levels of insulation and air tightness in residential and commercial buildings. Factors such as ever increasing energy costs, modern construction methods and building regulations have ultimately led to poor indoor climates that can cause health problems for occupants and damaging long term effects to the fabric of a building.
Our Duplexvent commercial heat recovery units are designed to save your business energy and improve the indoor air quality. These units provide ventilation and heat recovery (for commercial and industrial areas) by using polypropylene exchangers which recover heat from the transfer of warm air to cold air via exchangers with high conductivity and performance.
Technology
Heat recovery technology works by a process of continuously preheating an incoming cool supply air by warming it with the outgoing exhaust air. Warm air is not simply exhausted through the open window but transfers most of its heat to the supply air in a highly efficient heat recovery exchanger before being exhausted (at no time do the airstreams mix as the heat radiates through the plates of the exchanger).
Fresh air is fed directly from the outside into the ventilation system through a filter. The heat taken from the extracted air is used to warm the fresh filtered air in the exchanger and then flows through ducting. By undercutting doors and fitting transfer grilles, fresh air circulation is ensured throughout the dwelling.
2. Double page spread.
My media product was a front cover, contents page and
double page spread of a music magazine to fit a genre of my
choice. When doing my research I looked at various different
music magazines catering for all different genres such as
RNB, Indie Rock, Pop and Hip Hop, when analysing these genres
of magazines I looked specifically at 3 main points in order to
analysis magazines these include the written, symbolic and
technical code.
3. I looked at all different genres of magazines as I wanted to expand my knowledge on all genres
instead of just a rnb magazine in which I was creating. This way I could clearly see the basic structure
required for magazines so I could apply it to mine instead of looking into that specific type of genre and
what is expected. Doing this I was able to get a great understanding of the basics required to make a
magazine and from my extra research on the specific genre I was doing I was then able to adapt that
to suit my magazine I was creating.
4. The main sections that each magazine had in common were
the title and images on each page , then the space left
catered for specific genres.
For example the types of images I found on XXL
and rolling stones magazine were completely
different to the types of images I found on the
classic FM the differences ranged from the
models , clothing , make up , poses , eye line
along with lighting and shot angles.
Not only where the images different but most of
the time classic fm have 1 model on the front
where as rolling stones and XXL have 1 or more
ranging from solo artists to groups.
The texts and colour schemes were allot
different for example the styles of writing in XXL
and Rolling Stones were formal but yet informal
, the style of writing in classic fm was very
formal and factual , they also used allot of
mature words which a younger reader may not
know or understand.
To conclude my research on this section I
decided for my magazine the language used
will resemble XXL as it will be formal but yet
informal in some sections so it appeals to the
kind of readers I would like to attract.
5. Front Cover
With research into rnb magazines font
, I thought it was best to stick to
convention to have a bold simple font
yet still fierce and eye catching to
complement the magazine name
“VIXEN” I chose this particular font as i
wanted readers to remember the
name of my magazine and with the
boarder along the edge of the font
made my magazine stand out allot as
this kind of font is not only un common
in rnb magazines but most magazines.
I wanted my magazine to stand out
and catch peoples eye so i took
inspiration from other rnb magazines
such as “VIBE” and “XXL” they have
both stuck with a basic font colour
“white” which works really well with
put on any colour background as it will
stand out.
6. On most music magazines they cut out the image which has been taken
on a clear background and place it on their choice of background, this is
a really affective method as you may not be able to achieve the
background you want and in doing so you can get the background you
want. As this was affective I decided I would do the same I would put my
main photo on a different background and not have the original
background colour from the photo shoot as this can be quite plain and
boring , in doing so it means the cover will instantly catch the persons eye.
This also means I could cut and edit the photo and move the font on top
of my chosen picture with the background complementing the font
underneath the models top half of her head.
7. The colours I used
were a mixture of 4
main colours they
included white, black
, red and grey I
wanted my magazine
to stand although
these are basic
colours they are
never combined , I
did not want my
magazine to look
over whelming as this
may put the reader
off so I went for basic
colours which are not
seen together so it still
resembles the fierc e
look I wanted.
8. Contents
For my contents page again I Like the magazine
researched a few different music “VIBE” I decided to
magazine genres as I felt it gave go for a different
me inspiration on how to create approach and have
and style my contents. a different font for
my contents
page, the font I
chose still
complemented the
font on my front
cover , the
overlapping look is
common in
magazines but the
font being
downwards makes
a complete change
to other fonts , this
also gave me more
space for writing
and pictures to
place on my
contents page.
9. In terms of images it was hard to
decide were to place my images
on my contents page and front
cover , as I did not want to over
crowd the page in the end I went
with 4 images as I felt that was the
right amount to complement my
pages.
I added a editors letter to my
contents page as I felt it gave a
better connection to the reader
and made it more personal like a
one on one talk with the reader so
they felt important.
I added page numbers to all the
features and made sure they was
corresponding to my double
page spread to make the
magazine have a legit feel , I felt
it was best to keep numbers in my
magazine to help guide the
reader.
I felt it was important to have
separate sub headings on my
contents page unlike the “VIBE”
so instantly the reader can
decide which section they want
to read first.
10. I did not keep the font the same on
my contents and front cover as I
wanted a diverse look although the
fonts still complement each other.
I changed the colour of font for my
contents page put it was still in the
scheme of colours I chose, I put a
white boarder around “CONTENTS”
as I wanted to interpret the white
font on the front cover onto the
contents page it also created a
boarder which the front cover font
has as well.
Overall I believe the colour scheme
was successful as it goes with the
theme and style of my magazine.
However I do feel that it could be
seen as basic and boring so instead
of using the red I could of used
another colour such as yellow which
symbolises the sun which can be
classed as happiness as I feel the
colours could be perceived as dull.
11. Double Page Spread
I noticed that most double page spreads have
Double page spread.
the artists name as the title on the page or they
have the artists lyrics from a hit as the title I
wanted to break this specific look so I used the
title of the article as the title symbolises my
magazine as my magazine is more or so a
inspiring female magazine. I used the same font
on my front cover as I did my contents page as I
felt it gave the magazine personality and kept
the specific theme running through out as many
readers are not a fan of change having
changed my font for my contents page.
I wanted my title to go across both pages to link them to one another , this will
instantly show the reader this is a double page article (including an interview) with
the writing spread across 2 pages it does not put the read off as they will not think its
allot to read.
I used the same font for the title on my contents page as it would be familiar with the
reader so they will be aware what the article may include, I decided not to use the
font with the boarder as I did not want the page to look clusted and with the
background having a boarder I felt it was important to not have a boarder on the
double page spread font. I put “female domination” as the title as I think many
readers will be interested in this article cause most of the time women's success is not
published enough in media. I then put “Taynne Aubrey's Story” in smaller writing as
the title spoke for its self.
12. Most magazines I researched had 1 page dedicated to a
picture then on the other page it was dedicated to the artist
, but I decided I wanted change and did not want to conform
to the typical style of a double page spread so I had one main
image with an introduction underneath then the writing on the
other page , this worked well as it meant the reader could easily
follow the text.
I wanted the image to capture the feel of my article and the
name of my magazine as I felt it was important to stick to the
theme of my magazine , I made sure the pose of my model was
strong and fierce as this resembled the article title , I made sure I
picked a shot where the model was looking down on the
camera as this is a sense of empowerment on the reader.
As my magazine was called vixen I interoperated the name of
my magazine throughout my magazine as on the contents page
in the background i have a V for vixen along with the same V on
my double page spread this again is sticking to the same theme
throughout the magazine.
I used a pull quote like allot of other magazines to attract the
readers eye. I put it in the same font as “Taynne Aubrey's Story”
as I felt it tied nicely together. I put it in a bigger font so it was
clear it was separate from the rest of the article.
From my research into other magazines I took a keen liking to
how they made the first letter of the first paragraph larger than
the rest of the article as it instantly draws the readers attention
, again interpreting my magazine title in the article my letter was
V.
