2. USE OF FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL
MEDIA PRODUCTS:
 Generally in movies that concur with the genre of horror
there is often occurrences of ‘Sudden shock’ scenes as
has our media product – Paranormal Occurrences. The
technique of going about this tends to be with a build up
of tension just before the shock scene which is intended
to ‘scare/frighten’ the viewer. This build up of tension
can be done with the character within the film to become
increasingly cautious and/or paranoid, or, it can be done
with simple sound effects which imply that the character
or thing being watched is in danger. In ours we have
gone with the common horror theme which is to use
‘creepy’ sound effects and to also use the actor to
implicate this shock scene as well.

3. DEVELOPMENT OF FORMS AND CONVENTIONS
OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS:
 In our media product we have developed or built on the
common way of scaring the viewer, in a horror film, by
using both sound effects and acting implications to give
off the best build up of tension possible as all possible
senses are affected. (sight and hearing) We have also
used an everyday occurrence within the film, in order to
add realism to the film (this is because realise makes a
horror more believable and therefore more
frightening), this being that the car when going along
‘cuts out’ and the car stops and all lights go off. This is
not something that would see as a strange
happening(realism) and this provides an entrance for
the inhumane creature which is the ‘horror’ of the film to
be introduced to the viewer.

4. CHALLENGING THE CONVENTIONS OF THE
HORROR FILM GENRE IN OUR PRODUCTION:
 Our media product of which we produced for AS
level did not challenge many conventions and/or
forms as we followed the general stereotypes of the
horror genre, in our genre research we looked at
successful horror films. These gave us many ideas
and inspiration to put into our final production. In
the genre of horror conventions such as children
being the ‘monster’ is seen to be scarier, we used
this in our production with Millie Tee our actor. Dark
make-up and dark clothes were used to represent
death, sin and satanic beings. This also gave more
atmosphere to the character as she was in low
visibility so the audience was unsure where she
was.
