This course examines visual culture by investigating how images circulate and are mediated in Anglo-American culture, how visual media organize and produce meaning and effects from images, and provides an overview of the cultural history of images. Students will learn about concepts like encoding, production, reception, and social semiotics as well as visual language, metaphors, discourses and communication.
