Raymond Albert Kroc was born in 1902 in Illinois and died in 1984. He was originally a cup salesman who acquired the rights to sell a milkshake mixer across the U.S. In 1954, while visiting a McDonald's restaurant owned by the McDonald brothers that was using his mixers, he was impressed by their limited menu, efficient production methods, and low prices. He later convinced the brothers to let him franchise their business concept, and opened the first McDonald's franchise location in 1955 in Chicago, laying the foundation for the fast food empire.
