Building HOT teams—Revolutionizing how teams THINK together! by Min Basadur o...CincyInnovates
The world is now so complex that many problems are beyond the scope of any single individual. Interdisciplinary teams are often formed to apply their diverse knowledge (diversity in what their members know) to address these tough problems. In his presentation Dr. Basadur will discuss how to build HOT teams to achieve breakthrough results by harnessing a new kind of diversity (diversity in how the members think). The presentation will demonstrate how HOT teams follow a specific, easy to understand step by step process which synchronizes their diverse problem solving styles to simplify complex problem solving. Min will also introduce his audience to an on-line assessment tool that identifies each team member’s unique problem solving style and will provide real world application examples. Mr. Basadur’s presentation will be entertaining, fun and interactive and will provide concrete takeaways.

Building a Sustainable Innovation from Scratch by Amanda Smeller of AdvancePi...CincyInnovates
Amanda shares how she started from scratch to create both an innovation program and a consumer insights department at AdvancePierre Foods. Her challenge was to build a methodical, repeatable process that included consumer insights at every step of the way while dealing with time, budget and risk constraints. She will describe the scrapes and bruises and more importantly the wins the company achieved along the away. Amanda will discuss the importance of creating a culture that fosters innovation and consumer insights and educating internal customers in order to successfully implement an innovation program. She will also talk about the criticalness of making certain that the new process builds value into each step from idea generation to launch into the marketplace.
Driving Profitable Growth through Major Strategic Innovations by Jeff Goldste...CincyInnovates
In recent years it has become evident that strategic innovation is critical to corporate success and even survival. Achieving success with new brands, flankers, business units, new ways to-go-to market and change the game licenses and partnerships requires deeper and more objective assessment of the consumer, the category and the competition. Jeff will discuss how profitably managing ROI on innovation is really about managing the risks of learning, fully understanding the costs of acquiring and retaining new users, and most of all, executing the core innovation elements with excellence. Mr. Goldstein’s presentation will provide an overview of key concepts for success in major new businesses, licensing/partnerships and acquisitions and will reveal common mistakes made by innovation managers and entrepreneurs. He will also discuss 5 models for licensing/partnerships, overlooked components of volume and thinking like direct marketers.
Innovation Practices, Metrics and Performance by Kenneth Kahn Ph.D of VCU's ...CincyInnovates
New Product Development (NPD) practitioners are keen to benchmark NPD practices because identifying practices which are able to more efficiently and/or effectively deliver a new product or service could mean the difference between success and failure. To help in identifying such practices Dr. Kahn will present findings pertaining to what practitioners find to be poor and best NPD practices. Among the different practices presented particular focus will be put on metrics and performance measurement. Thoughts on how to frame metrics and performance measurement during innovation will be introduced. The presentation will conclude with guidelines for manifesting better performance through practices and metrics, incorporating actual project experiences from VCU’s da Vinci Center for Innovation.

The workshop will overview intermediate and advanced concepts of evaluating the impact of philanthropic foundations as well as the organizational systems that support impact evaluation and learning within foundations. Main topics include: prioritizing evaluation audiences and purposes, selecting among a range of evaluation designs (randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental designs, correlational studies, descriptive studies); organizational readiness for evaluation and learning; and organizational learning. A range of practical tools for developing evaluation projects and for building organizational practices in evaluation and learning will also be shared. Current debates, criticisms, and possible ways forward will be presented using select cases and illustrations. Participants will be encouraged to bring their own examples, offer honest appraisals, and identify ways to advance their own philanthropic work. (This workshop is at an intermediate level; basic concepts of evaluation will be reviewed briefly in the context of more advanced topics.)

24th IAJBS World Forum - GCSEN - Universities as Place-Makers in the Local Ec...GCSEN Foundation
Colleges can play a critical role in sustainable regional and local development by expanding their historical role as anchor institutions. This expansion could take the form of a ‘knowledge economy” update on the land grant college model. Land grant colleges were established to provide practical skills training to farmers, mechanics and other tradesmen (Hertz, 2013). Providing education in innovation, entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship can prepare both students and adult learners for well-paying careers in the place based economy.
Placemaking as an economic development strategy, also called place-based economic development, is the practice of using a community’s public amenities to make economic progress. This approach focuses on the unique features of particular places, building on existing assets, such as arts, cultural amenities, parks, architectural design, open spaces, lakes or walkable streets to create a strong bond between people and the places they live , contributing to the appeal of these places to live, work, engage and socialize. Effective placemaking strategies can also attract investment and be a catalyst for entrepreneurial innovation (Ivacko & Horner, 2014), as well as enhance the attraction of young millennial, college-aged students to a particular location.
The Presidents Forum is a group of college and university presidents dedicated to the continuous reinvention of higher education. The Forum engages in collective project-driven innovation that has the potential to achieve systemic change that has a meaningful impact on students, historically including NC SARA, and the Transparency by Design initiative.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

appreciate the magnitude of the challenges he faced over 20 years as the organization’s

little doubt that he will be an important member of his Fast Track cohort.”

TEACHING MOTIVATION AND PHILOSOPHY
I love teaching. Why? It is an incredible gift and honor to see first-hand the power of
conceiving, believing and achieving occur within my students during the length of an
academic semester and beyond. Reading their qualitative feedback surveys after each
semester further reinforces that I’ve contributed to their growth process.
I have pursued teaching as a second stage career path. During my first stage career I built
a number of small businesses and non-profits. This in turn led to my being sought out for
strategic advisory services then CEO/Co-Founder role in a start-up non-profit- NFTE-
Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship- that would go on to scale globally, work with

500,000 students and be case studied twice by Harvard Business School. The popularity of
these case studies in turn created a demand for my lecturing at Columbia, Dartmouth, Duke,
Harvard- Business and Kennedy Schools and Stanford Universities.
From this experience, I was then invited to be a “practitioner-academic” at Babson College
and CUNY-BARUCH working with both graduate and undergraduate students. Since 1988, I
have been able to teach entrepreneurship to students ranging in age from 15 to 50 years
around the world. have had the blessing of lecturing teaching and working with a wide range
of from the lowest income to the most prestigious and credentialed graduate school students,
from the next generation scions of the world’s wealthiest business families to the multi-
generation impoverished on many continents. From those who are physically challenge,
incarcerated or learning disadvantaged to the most gifted and resourced. I have seen in the
eyes of them all a desire to learn, dream, to change their lives for the better and to change
the world for the better. Given the state of our very needy world, it is only through education
that we can help support more flames of knowledge that will light up the darkness. This is
why I must teach.
I believe knowledge with wisdom (applied knowledge) is power and as a teacher I have the
right and the duty to share knowledge and the accumulated wisdom of insights gained from
my own career path. I always say, “I don’t have answers just perspective and that each
student must come to their own answers in life.”
I believe that as an educator I am walking Joseph Campbell’s, “The Thousand Faces of A
Hero”. This “hero path” is with my students. We are on a shared journey beginning in the
classroom which goes beyond the semester – and we grow together. Together we chose to
depart from the comfortable, gain enlightenment through struggle and most importantly we
commit to “the return” to teach others (our colleagues, our fellow students, our friends and
families) what we have learned. From all the Babson and Baruch classes I have taught over
the years I have now served as a mentor to 93 students.
I believe that educators have a noble duty to find new truths and affirm old ones based on
rigorous research, writing, debate and presentations. We have a noble duty to inspire,
challenge and nurture our students in and beyond the classroom. In my role as a teacher I
am enabled to see the potential that lies within my students and am thrilled to help it emerge.
It is my sacred duty to help my students see and tap into their natural or God-given
potential as well. I believe that education is a great individual liberator, societal equalizer and

nation builder. And I believe that social entrepreneurship education, entrepreneurship that
seeks to transform society through triple bottom line oriented efforts (by intentionally linking
people, profit and planet), is one of the most pragmatic, radical and transformative non-
coercive forces for good that exists on our planet today.
