Mobilize.org held a Target 2020 Florida Summit that received media coverage from several local news outlets in Miami and the Knight Foundation. Five ideas for improving college completion rates that were pitched by Miami Millennials at the summit won funding. The summit focused on strengthening civic health and college graduation rates in Florida and featured presentations from the Miami-Dade County Superintendent and a US Under Secretary of Education.
How do you use LinkedIn to market yourself towards a social justice career? How do you use Twitter to share your response to a world event? What apps do you use to communicate a cause? Everyday we use technology and social media to promote ourselves, share our passions, and to be activists. In 2019, online campaigns and movements are able to change laws and make a difference in the world, but when does the online activism cause problems? As the world is advancing the use of technology and social media, we can learn how to be better social justice advocates and deter the negative impacts of online activism.
For the first time in history, there are four generations involved in philanthropy: Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Gen X and Gen Y (Millenials). Although each generation is philanthropic, they have individual preferences for how they are engaged by nonprofits, including the use of social media. The use of social media is an important part of stewarding your next generation donors, but does your organization have a clear understanding and plan of how social media can be used to raise funds? Learning ways to leverage multi-channel communications (including social media) across generations for your cultivation and stewardship strategies will benefit the fundraising efforts in your organization.
This session will demonstrate how important it is to create lifetime givers by reaching out to the younger generations (under age 40) now as well as define the key characteristics of the four currents generations of philanthropists and their habits for charitable giving. Participants will learn strategic entry points to successfully engage across generations in philanthropy, both as donors and within the fundraising functions. Ultimately, we need to cultivate every generation for the mission sustainability.
Advancing Racial Equity through Community Engagement in Collective ImpactLiving Cities
Tackling racial inequalities head on is critical to dramatically improving results for low-income people. As a starting point, equitable collaboration with people of color is critical to ensure that social change efforts are informed by the lived experience of the communities they seek to benefit.
Our webinar explored how to ensure that community residents influence the design and direction of collective impact initiatives. View the slides for insights from our panel of cross-sector leaders working to advance racial equity.
