Staff confidence and skill levels in using ICT at Mellons Bay School has grown from March to September 2008. In March, two-thirds of staff reported feeling confident or very confident in using ICT, and this level remained steady in September. The use of the internet for classroom resources by staff increased from 40% to 65% regularly or frequently over this period. Staff confidence in using ICT to improve student learning, engagement, and achievement rose from a third to higher levels in 2008. Sharing of ICT knowledge between educators increased slightly, from 22% to 29% contributing to online communities.

It covered revising the basics of Office programs and learning new functions in them, looking at CreativeCommons and copyright-free resources, VLE training to help answer learner queries, screencasting, social media updates, doing MOOCs to help us understand what digital skills employers want, increasing their own skills, learning what to include in blended learning and to giving them an idea of what might be in their blended learning initiative and making better use of their OPAC and e-resources.

The purpose of this study was to ascertain the extent to which Accounting lecturers use ICT in the teaching of Accounting in tertiary institutions in Rivers State. Three research questions were used to obtain relevant responses needed for the study; accordingly, three hypotheses were also formulated. The research design was the descriptive survey design and the sample size was seventy (70) Accounting lecturers that exist in the five tertiary institutions used for the study. The instrument used was Information and Communication Technology Teaching Accounting of Accounting Questionnaire (ICTTAAQ) made up of three major parts; A: Demographics; B (three sections) addressing relevant research questions. The ICTTAAQ met both validity and reliability criteria. The study revealed among other things that Accounting lecturers do not make enough use of Accounting software in the teaching of Accounting. Consequently, the three research hypotheses that guided the study were also rejected. The study recommended that based on the role ICT and Accounting software in the improvement of teaching of Accounting, Management of tertiary institutions should provide ICT tools and accounting libraries, and where they are available, Accounting lecturers should utilize them properly to enhance professional competence.

- 2. Staff confidence and skill level in using ICT is high at Mellons Bay School. Two thirds of staff reported being confident or very confident in their use and skill level of ICT in March. In September staff reported similar confidence and skill levels. A further pleasing note, was that the staff who had little confidence in March are now gaining confidence. Where to next… Provide opportunities for confident staff to support others – workshops, ICT mentors/buddies, staff meetings, cluster meetings, team planning. Develop our personal ICT skills through setting achievable appraisal goals.
- 3. All MBS staff are using the internet for classroom programming . In March 40% of staff were using the internet regularly or frequently to gather online material and resources for classroom programming, this rose to 65% in September. Where to next… Critique online resources and materials in terms of their potential and effectiveness to raise student engagement and achievement. Promote online resources. Provide an infrastructure and hardware systems which supports new online software and resources.
- 4. Staff confidence and skill level in using ICT is positively growing. A third of our teachers were feeling confident or very confident in using ICT to improve student learning, engagement and achievement in March. This confidence has continue to rise in 2008. Where to next… Continue to read professional readings and contribute responses and thoughts within various professional communities. Continue to develop a curriculum and teaching pedagogy that supports the integration of ICT into classrooms. Provide assessment tools and student manager system for teachers to track, analyse and use data to raise student achievement.
