Function of MBOT
• To recognize and register Technologists and Technicians as Professionals
based on technology and technical fields
• To provide facilities for the promotion of education and training and to
hold or cause to be held, professional development programs for registered
persons to further enhance their knowledge relating to their professions
• To determine and regulate the conduct and ethics of the technologists and
technician profession
• To conduct assessments or to cause assessments to be conducted by an
institution approved by the Board for the purpose of admission to the
profession.

Professional Technologist (Ts) / (P.Tech)
● Professional Technologist is an individual who will translate the ideas,
concepts and engineering design of a Professional Engineer into reality
based on the capabilities of current technology.
● They will also design construction and manufacturing procedures to comply
with the engineering design.
● This title can only be applied for when the individual has a recognized
degree, worked in the field of technical services for at least 3 years,
screened according to experience and qualifications and interviewed by the
Malaysian Board of Technologist (MBOT).

Professional Engineer (Ir) / (P.Eng)
● A Professional Engineer is an individual who can approve an ‘engineering
design’ based on mathematical and scientific theory.
● The purpose is to ensure that all engineering inventions are safe and optimal for
use. To obtain the title, a person must have a recognized engineering degree,
work in the field of engineering for 3-5 years, through screening and examination
as well as an interview by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).
● Only 4 percent have the title Ir. this is from all engineers in Malaysia or 10
percent of all engineers registered with BEM.
