This document summarizes and analyzes scenes from three movies shown at the Cinema One Originals 2013 film festival: Blue Bustamante, Woman of the Ruins, and Shift. For each movie, the author identifies a scene and explains which communication or psychological theory best explains what occurs in that scene, such as social penetration theory, attribution theory, or elaboration likelihood theory. The document also summarizes the message of the movie Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon? and argues it demonstrates reinforcement theory by showing how the main character's attitudes change as a result of his new experiences and opinions.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

1. CINEMA ONE ORIGINALS 2013
REYES, MAY ANN S.
BACR 2-2
1) Identify at least 3 scenes/per movie in at least 3 out of 5 movies (except “Ganito Kami
Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon) presented in the festival and look for a theory that is
applicable in explaining the scene. Elaborate your answer.
I‟m so very lucky that I had given a chance to watch those inspirational movies. I see
those movies that are very improving and it is really good because it made by the Filipino.
Because of that I would like to congratulate Cinema One Originals for the success of their film
because of their creativity and passion to do those movies. Those movies want to open our minds
and hearts to those shocking scene and they want us to become proud that we are Filipino. I
really like the movies especially Blue Bustamante by Mico Levelo, Woman of the Ruins by
Keith Sicat and Shift by Seige Ledesma that so very amazing. The movie that I said earlier is my
favorite and I am going to identify what theory they are involved.
a) The first movie I chose is „Blue Bustamante‟ when George went to Japan to work
as an Engineer that fits to what course he graduated but sadly he didn‟t know first
that he is already hired. So, his friend Roger, who is currently working on a TV
Station which is Force Five as, a set designer, offered him a temporary job as a
stuntman. This situation is an example of Social Penetration Theory because both
of them are in the same situation being that as the foundation why they got to
know each other more. It can also be Attribution Theory because George forced to
pursue of being a stuntman in the cartoon show Force Five when he knew that his
son is watching it without knowing that he is the Blue Force, his son‟s favourite
character. And last scene, when Kiko (Roger‟s son) asked his friend whose
favorite is pink. It explained Interpersonal Deception Theory because the way he
answers is very suspicious that‟s why Kiko confused if his answer is true or not.
b) The next movie I chose is „Woman of the Ruins‟ when Pasyon was forcing Maria
to remember her past and insisting her that she was his long lost husband. He
abused Maria because Pasyon said that she needs to obey him. The authority that
used in the Peripheral route. It follows Elaboration Likelihood Theory. Next is
when Maria discovered unconsciously on the seashore. Sabel is already having
jealousy to Maria but when they met already, she realized that Maria is Pasyon‟s
legal wife. It is fit to Attribution Theory. Last scene, when Sabel told Pasyon not
to hurt Maria. Pasyon told her why he would do such thing and lied to tell that he
never hurt Maria. It‟s explaining Interpersonal Deception Theory.
2. c) And the last movie I chose is „Shift‟ when Estella (Yeng Constantino) applied a
job that is not fit to what course she graduated which is Bachelor of Science in
Sociology. Instead of Sociologist, she works as a call center agent in a big
company. It is an example of Cognitive Dissonance Theory. The next scene is
when Estella forced to leave the company because of the company problem. It is
Reinforcement Theory because Estella doesn‟t have a choice but to leave the
company and find another job. Lastly, when Estella realized that she is falling in
love to Trevor (Felix Rocco), though he is a gay. The scene is an example of
Social Penetration Theory because their relationship is developed.
2) What message does Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon try to present in the
movie? How did the movie represent the Filipino people? What theory did you notice that
was evidently portrayed in the movie? Elaborate.
The movie is about the status of a Filipino back then. The situation of a Filipinos during
the Spanish-American times who wants to invade our country. At that time, the move of the
Filipinos is very limited because of the Spaniards who wants to conquer them. It is difficult to
the Filipinos to do whatever they want because of the eye of the conquerors who always look to
them. The movie presents the conflicts between Filipino and Spaniards. They also show what is
the meaning of „Filipino‟ they are the one who always smile after the struggles that encountered
and whatever the situation is, the one who always look in the positive side and the one who is
kind-hearted.
Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon? A film directed by Eddie Romero is an eye
catcher movie. The message of the movie is to tell the Filipino viewers who is the true Filipino
is. Nicholas “Kulas” Ocampo, a protagonist, his kindness, being helpful and trusted man is an
example of real identity of a Filipino. At young age, he is fooled by the Spaniards without
knowing that he is already abused to them because he is lack of education and of course because
his innocent mind. He is a man who came from the province to start his new life. He passed the
challenges that he encounter during the Spanish colonization and American colonization also.
I think the movie is an example of Reinforcement Theory of Howland and Kelly which
explains the attitude changes result from opinion through the attention and comprehension
because he believe to the people what they say about him, then suddenly when he met Mang
Tibor, Pader Gil, who sent Kulas to Manila to find his son Bindoy and his friend Kidlat, he
decided that he don‟t want to be an educated man. And there he realized that a true Filipino is the
one who not easily fooled by the enemies. Like his councilor told to him that the true Filipino are
the one who born in the wealth in their own country, serve and loved his own country which is
Philippines. The movie fights for his own belief.
