DIVISION (Communication)
This module is about division of 3-4 digit numbers by 1-2 digit
numbers with and without remainder. Division is splitting into equal
parts or group. We use the symbol ÷ or / to mean divide. Let us know
more about them by reading and understanding this module. Plus! There
are exciting challenges you will be able to experience.
Division is a method of distributing group of things into equal
parts. It is one of the four basic operations of arithmetic, which gives a
fair result of sharing. The division is an operation inverse of
multiplication.
Find the quotient of the following.
1.) 806 ÷ 6 =
2.) 972 ÷ 3 =
3.) 618 ÷ 4 =
4.) 1875 ÷ 5 =
5.) 3462 ÷ 5 =
6. 2396 ÷ 51=
7. 8688 ÷ 12=
8. 434 ÷15 =

Parts in a Division equation
QUOTIENT
is a result obtained in the
division process.
DIVIDEND
is the number that is
being divided in the
division process
DIVISOR
- The number by
which dividend is
being divided by
REMAINDER
- Is a portion of the
dividend that is left
over after division.
How to do Division?
Study this example:
Mang Danny gathered 432 eggs one morning. He needs to put them in trays
that can hold 12 eggs in each tray. How many trays did Mang Danny use?
What is asked in the problem? What operation are we going to use?
Study the solution:
Steps to follow:
1. Divide- The number inside the house with the number
outside the house. Start with 2 digit in the dividend, since
the divisor is 2 digit
3
2. Multiply- The number outside of the house by the number
on top of the house.
36
3. Subtract- The number inside the house from the number
below the inside number
-
7
4. Bring Down – The next number in the dividend to add to
the ones place in your sum.
2
5. Repeat- all the steps as many time as needed. Write
remainder beside the quotient if any.
