4.  Inadequate
drainage of exudate
 Inadequate antibiotic treatment of AOM

5.  This
stage follows the stage of suppuration in
ASOM.
 There will be congestion of the mucosa of
the mastoid which leads to aggravation of
symptoms.
 Clinical manifestations:




Severe pain in the mastoid region
Otorrhoea
Deafness
Tenderness in the mastoid antrum

6.  The
air cells of the mastoid coalesce &
mastoid cavity becomes converted in to a
bag of pus [empyema].
 Clinical manifestations:




Severe pain
Otorrhoea
Tenderness in the mastoid antrum
Oedema and sagging of external auditory canal

7.  It
occurs with CSOM.

8.  Antibiotics
 Myringotomy
 Mastoidectomy
