The OFCS aims to save costs by accurately diagnosing mastitis infections to allow for selective cow therapy. This is done by identifying the causative pathogen through on-farm culture testing. Key goals are to reduce mastitis percentages, decrease treatment costs by $534,000 annually, lower milk losses by $1,484,000 annually, and cut the treatment cost per cow from $2,500 to $1,000. The success of the program relies on adequate training and experience of staff collecting samples, interpreting culture results, and developing logical treatment protocols.
