This document outlines a mastitis diagnosis protocol called the On Farm Culture System (OFCS). The OFCS aims to save costs by accurately diagnosing mastitis infections to allow for selective cow therapy. This is done by identifying the causative pathogen through on-farm culture testing. Key goals are to reduce mastitis percentages, decrease treatment costs by $534,000 annually, lower milk losses by $1,484,000 annually, and cut the treatment cost per cow from $2,500 to $1,000. The success of the program relies on adequate training and experience of staff collecting samples, interpreting culture results, and developing logical treatment protocols.
