The Marx Brothers were five brothers of Jewish immigrant descent from Germany who got their start in vaudeville acts in the early 1900s. Their first film was 1929's The Cocoanuts. Duck Soup, released in 1933, was one of their most famous and politically satirical films, mocking incompetent governments. It featured the unique comedic talents of brothers Chico, Harpo, Groucho, Zeppo, and their frequent costar Margaret DuMont. Though some found its silly humor unsuitable amid the Great Depression, it has since been preserved for its cultural significance.
