Turning Numbers into Knowledge: A Statistics Dashboard

We are often swimming in data we collect about our patrons and their usage of our library resources, but how can we make sense of those numbers in a way that will help us improve or adjust our services? In this presentation, you’ll learn about a statistics dashboard created by the Indianhead Federated Library System for member libraries to see and interpret data collected from a variety of sources in order to get a fuller picture of library resource usage. This dashboard incorporates ILS data, e-materials information, and wireless and computer usage into visual data display to help libraries further understand how their resources are being used by their communities.

The experience from a successful Forms to APEX migration
In roughly seven months Stadsbeheer B.V. with a specially composed "task force" migrated a large forms application (with more than 300 unique forms) to Apex. This new application, SBA-CS currently is being implemented at their customers.
SBA CS stands for SBA Collaboration Suite and is a system for municipalities, water boards, provinces, environmental services, etc. to support their processes for site-specific permits (incl. monitoring and enforcement). Collaboration Suite because it emphasizes the ability to collaborate with partners outside of the own organisation.
Besides the technical migration, a lot of attention has been given to "user interface design" (UI) and the "user experience" (UX). Special templates have been developed for the application and also several interesting features such as a flexible to set up dashboard based on widgets, a separate search engine that operates on a Google-like way and lots of other features.
Several interesting techniques are used throughout the application that enable the system to quickly render large amounts of complex data.
Stadsbeheer used knowledge and experience from a number of smart4unity labels, for example smart4apex, smart4branding and smart4solutions. A taskforce was set up to guarantee a successful migration.

Machine Learning at Scale with MLflow and Apache Spark
Societe Generale is one of the major banks in France and has many data science teams across the globe. After years of explorations and prototyping, it is time for the company to really deploy machine learning projects at scale to the production environment.
To achieve that goal, we have been working hard to define a standard process of collaboration between data engineers and data scientists. And we also designed and deployed an infrastructure for productionizing machine learning.
During this presentation, you will be looking at the following points of our adventure:
1. Difficulties that we had for putting ML applications into production, such as lack of model registry; hard to deploy ML libraries to our Hadoop cluster; collaboration between data scientists and data engineers etc. ?
2. How did we deploy MLflow as a key technical component to our production hadoop environment given different security constraints.
3. How did we build a CI/CD pipeline to deploy ML applications automatically. MLflow plays an important role in this piepline.
4. A first and concrete production project developed on top of this infrastructure with MLflow, Spark streaming, Sklearn and CI/CD.
The key takeaways of this presentation would be:
1. To productionize machine learning in a big structure like Société Générale, a process of collaboration should be clearly defined.
2. A ML model registry is key to ML productionization. MLflow is the best solution we found.
3. A CI/CD pipeline is essential to the success of a machine learning application.

As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
