The document discusses how the changing nature of work is impacting office space. Cloud computing and mobile devices allow employees to work remotely and more collaboratively in less overall space. Approximately 26% of the global workforce currently works remotely at least 2 days a week, and this is expected to grow to over 40% in the next 5 years. While remote work is increasing, face-to-face meetings remain important for transferring tacit knowledge. Traditional cubicles are being replaced by open floor plans to reduce costs and encourage collaboration through activity-based working. Office space allocations per person are decreasing to reduce costs while attracting top talent through flexible work environments.
Service Design is a new field that addresses the design of services. It helps organizations innovate and improve existing services to make them more useful, usable, and desirable for clients as well as more efficient for the organization.

2011 has been another tough year for the Engineering & Construction industry and the challenges ahead for the industry and its clients remain daunting. Project challenges continue to grow, competitive pressures mount and government budgets remain constrained. The Engineering & Construction industry is responding, innovating better solutions, generally incremental in nature. As a new year approaches, it is a good time to reflect on how we can do better by causing breakthrough or systemic innovation to occur.
This short Viewpoint piece has just appeared in Engineering News Record and is intended to cause the key players in the E&C industry to think about whether our own industry\'s model is a barrier to systemic innovation. Over the years you have all been most generous in your feedback, thoughts and challenges to the many articles I have written. In many ways this may be the most important. I value your input and encourage you to share your thoughts and suggestions with me.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

This presentation will outline the scope and perspective of utilizing AI in XML development. The potential benefits and the possible pitfalls will be highlighted, providing a balanced view of the subject.
We will explore the capabilities of AI in understanding XML markup languages and autonomously creating structured XML content. Additionally, we will examine the capacity of AI to enrich plain text with appropriate XML markup. Practical examples and methodological guidelines will be provided to elucidate how AI can be effectively prompted to interpret and generate accurate XML markup.
Further emphasis will be placed on the role of AI in developing XSLT, or schemas such as XSD and Schematron. We will address the techniques and strategies adopted to create prompts for generating code, explaining code, or refactoring the code, and the results achieved.
The discussion will extend to how AI can be used to transform XML content. In particular, the focus will be on the use of AI XPath extension functions in XSLT, Schematron, Schematron Quick Fixes, or for XML content refactoring.
The presentation aims to deliver a comprehensive overview of AI usage in XML development, providing attendees with the necessary knowledge to make informed decisions. Whether you’re at the early stages of adopting AI or considering integrating it in advanced XML development, this presentation will cover all levels of expertise.
By highlighting the potential advantages and challenges of integrating AI with XML development tools and languages, the presentation seeks to inspire thoughtful conversation around the future of XML development. Innovative technology is continually changing business relation-
ships and the way people are conducting business. The interior
landscape is rapidly evolving to accommodate the changing nature
of work. Flexibility within the work environment becomes vital to
ensuring team productivity and effective communication. The de-
sign challenge is to respond to the emerging issues of electronics
and communication within team oriented open office plan, flexible
workstations and teaming spaces for casual and formal use. To ac-
commodate the new needs of the corporate landscape, design must
include responsive lighting design, innovative building systems,
movable partitions, modular furniture and the appropriate support
technologies for maximum adaptability and team productivity.

Interior workspaces have a tremendous impact on
their occupants. Increased psychological well-being
can have positive impacts on productivity, employ-
ee retention and stress reduction.
• Decrease the occupants’ sense of enclosure
• Increase the individual sense of privacy
• Maximize personal control over environment
• Control ambient noise levels to facilitate
concentration
• Provide diffuse, uniform natural light
To reap the psychological, physical and fiscal ben-
efits of a healthy building, a variety of design prin-
ciples should be employed.
