3. Who is Mario Testino?
Mario Testino was born in 1954 in Limas, Peru, where he grew up living a tradition middle
class catholic family life. Before becoming a photographer Mario Testino wanted to be a
priest and studied economics before becoming one of the most desired photographers in
the industry. He moved to London in 1956 and bought a flat in an abounded hospital in
Trafalgar square. Testino began to sell portfolios at £25 to wannabe models. To he is
known for his extremely polished and exquisite photographs, now at the peak of his
career he has taken photographs for Madonna for Versace as well as taking pictures for
the late Diana for her vanity fair cover 1997.
Testino has been recognised fore his charitable work, in 2010 he was awarded one of the
highest honours in his native country ‘The Grand Cross Order of Merit’. Testino has done
charity work for organisations such as, Save the Children, amfAR, Elton John AIDS
Foundation and CLIC Sargent for children with cancer. During his work froe Save The
Children he organised and fund raised to help the building of the El Salvador Clinic in the
Pueblo Nuevo District, Chincha
