Observation
There is much activity in the field of open data:
•
Many public institutions have opened their data sources
•
Many developers have started to work on these data
However:
Most of these developments are fragmented from the perspective of
developers, data owners and the market.

9. Apps for Europe
This has lead to:
•
low quality apps,
•
reinvented wheels,
•
small and fragmented marketplaces,
•
and most importantly, a lack of economic impact of the
resulting applications and associated efforts.

number of projects moving from an app concept or prototype phase into a business start-up.
The Business Lounge is a programme for app developers to
1) assist these developers in the creation of a business model and resources,
2) provide them with the necessary skills and knowledge to present themselves to investors and
3) actually connect them with these investors: entrepreneurs, venture capital, social enterprise
