Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) can serve as a complementary approach to conventional wind tunnel testing to assess the wind flow around tall buildings. Being a clear high-Performance Computing (HPC) task, CFD simulations conventionally run on supercomputers and compute clusters using specialized software such as OpenFOAM. The limited availability and high maintenance costs of supercomputers and clusters force small and medium companies to search for the cost-efficient infrastructure to conduct their simulations with the appropriate performance. The on-demand offer of computing capacity by cloud service providers are well suited to this task. However, engineers and researchers require extensive expertise and experience in working with cloud computing in order to benefit from running CFD simulations on a cloud.

A paper from Museums and the Web 2009 The promise of distributed computing has long been touted by computer scientists working on Grids or in Clouds, but is the realization of these goals finally at hand? Recently several commercial offerings have generated a lot of attention for their potential to revolutionize the way business computing is conducted. The field has already seen several interesting and innovative business models spring up with their core computing process firmly anchored in the cloud (Horrigan, 2008). Does the same hold true for museums? What are the benefits and risks associated with moving our institutional computing to the cloud? Is cloud computing a viable option for hosting the rich media and content common to many museums today, or is it still vaporware in need of more time? This paper discusses these questions and poses suggestions regarding how museums can begin to utilize cloud computing services. OSGi Community Event 2013 (http://www.osgi.org/CommunityEvent2013/Schedule) ABSTRACT Today’s energy market is rapidly changing. The percentage of renewable energy is growing fast, and more and more energy consumers are also generating energy. However, renewable energy sources, like solar and wind are uncontrollable and not always accurately predictable. To avoid black-outs and other problems, the electricity grid must become smarter. In this talk I will present the PowerMatcher smart grid concept, and how its rapid adoption is enabled by OSGi and Eclipse technologies, as demonstrated in the Couperus field trial in the Netherlands. The PowerMatcher is an innovative approach for smart coordination in the electricity grid, a scalable multi-agent system that optimizes distributed generation, storage and use of electrical energy. In 2012, the development of a reference implementation for PowerMatcher on OSGi was started, and the result is now available under a research license from the newly founded Flexiblepower Alliance Network. The OSGi's service, component and configuration model enable rapid development of PowerMatcher solutions, from simulation to assembly and distributed deployment. Messaging between distributed agents is supported with Eclipse Paho, and a simulation toolkit has been developed using the Eclipse Rich Client Platform. The first field deployment that is using the new reference implementation for PowerMatcher is the Couperus Smart Grid project, a new housing project with 300 energy efficient apartment homes equipped with an individual heat pump for heating and cooling. The PowerMatcher controls the heat pumps in such a way that it compensates generation imbalance of a wind turbine, within the capacity constraints of the local grid. He has led the development of the initial version of the PowerMatcher reference implemention and its field trial in the Couperus Smart Grid project. His past work includes development of RFID and sensor solutions and middleware products, contributions to the Eclipse Service Oriented Device Architecture, and IBM's Java runtime technologies and tools.

In the past MTEMC has oversized their transformers across the utility due to a lack of consumption data in GIS. MTEMC joined SSP Innovations to auto-load SAP consumption data, perform aggregation for peak usage, and to visualize the data in ArcGIS Online via a thematic map. Field troubleshooters use Collector for ArcGIS to view the load profile for any transformer showing peak usage against the transformer size. This results in cost savings and has generated drivers for many other uses of the data and of ArcGIS Online.

AI is posed to be one of the game-changers of the space industry, helping to achieve more scalable, profitable missions that deliver more relevant and usable data. AIKO is leading this race for the adoption of AI in space, and during this talk, we’ll cover some of the crazy things we are doing in the company. BIO: Mattia Varile, Chief Innovation Officer (CIO). Mattia's primary role involves investigating and testing innovative technologies applied to automation for the space sector. He earned his degree in Aerospace Engineering from Politecnico di Torino and gained valuable experience working as a systems engineer with the CubeSat Team Polito. Since 2018, Mattia has been an active member of AIKO, where he has honed his expertise in Artificial Intelligence, specifically in Deep Learning and Reinforcement Learning. Prior to his current role, Mattia participated in several research projects and startup initiatives.
