4. INTRODUCTION
• A submersible pump is similar to centrifugal pump having design similar to
diffuser or turbine pump with radial or mixed flow impellers.
• As the name indicates the pump and electric motor both are submerged in
water.
• This pump is used in Industries, Agriculture as well as for Domestic
application.
• In this presentation we will learn about the Submersible pump is
manufactured step by step with understanding the operations.
• The production is of “ROTEX” a Indian submersible pump manufacturer.
5. PARTS OF SUBMERSIBLE PUMP
• 1.Induction Motor
• 2.Impellers
• 3.Shaft
• 4.Diffuser
• 5.Non slam check valve
• 6.Casing
6. MANUFACTURING (STEP 1 : MAKING DISFFUSER BOWLS)
• They start by making diffuser bowls using urn shaped castings.
• The bowls hold the pump spinning impellers.
• Computerized tools refine their shape so the bowls fit neatly in the pump
columns.
7. MANUFACTURING (STEP 2 : CARVING THE IMPELLERS)
• Another set of tools carve the bronze impellers.
• They fine tune the casing so that the impellers will fit into the diffuser bowls .
• Here is a look at the both sides of the finished bowls.
8. MANUFACTURING (STEP 3 : BALANCING)
• A technician uses this machine to check
for imbalances.
• When sensors locate the problem he
sands down the metal in that area this
balances the impeller.
9. MANUFACTURING (STEP 4 : SHAFT PIPES MAKING)
• Next they make the pump shaft pipes .
• Tools work on both the ends of the
pipe simultaneously to refine the
inner diameter, then they carve
threads into them.
10. MANUFACTURING (STEP 5 : MAKING ROTOR AND STATOR)
• Rotor of induction motor is made by operations such as rotor pressing ,
brazing, turning , CNC turning, grinding and burnishing.
• After this they insert copper coils I into the Stator.
• A coolant is circulated in the stator windings for cooling of heat generated.
• Separate impellers is provided for circulating the coolant ( water or oil).
11. MANUFACTURING (STEP 6 : MOTOR ASSEMBLY)
• Before assembling the induction motor they take a inspection of rotor and
stator for checking of electrical connections or any problem.
• Winding:- when the inspection is done they start winding all the electric
cables , wires etc. Into the motor.
12. MANUFACTURING ( STEP 7 : PUMP ASSEMBLY)
• The pump is assembled manually.
• Workers step by step assembles the various parts such
as induction motor, impellers , diffusers , diffuser bowls
and shaft into the casing.
• They use bearings, springs and bolts and screws for
attaching the different parts into one an other.
• The assembled submersible pump is shown in right
side figure.
13. MANUFACTURING (STEP 8 : TESTING THE PUMP)
• Quality control department tests various pump parameters such Horse Power , operating
voltage and current, efficiency, dimensions and working speed etc.
• After this they take a actual test of pump.
• They submerges the Pump into the water and record their readings.
14. MANUFACTURING (STEP 9 : PAINTING AND PACKAGING)
• A blue color paint that is sprayed on the
pump to protect the pump from corrosion.
• Finally, the pump is packed and labelled.
