Sā,va,tthi yaṁ, viharati Je,tavane,
Anā,tha-piṇ,ḍika,ssa ā,rā,me,
Atha kho, a,ññatarā, de,vatā,
Abhi,kkan,tā,ya ra,ttiyā, abhi,kkan,ta va,ṇṇā,
Ke,vala ka,ppaṁ, Je,tavanaṁ, O,bhā,setvā,
Ye,na bhagavā, te,nupasaṁ,-kami
Upasaṁ, kamitvā, bhagavan,taṁ,
Abhivā,de,tvā e,kaman,taṁ, a,ṭṭhā,si
E,kaman,taṁ,ṭhiṭā, kho, sā, de,vatā,
Bhagavan,taṁ, gā,thā,ya a,jjhabhā,si:-
Thus have I heard: On one occasion the Blessed One was living near Savatthi at
Jetavana at Anathapindika's monastery. Now when the night was far advanced, a
certain deity, whose surpassing radiance illuminated the whole of Jetavana,
approached the Blessed One, respectfully saluted Him, and standing at one side
addressed Him in verse.
如是我闻，一时，佛住舍卫祗陀园给孤独精舍。
时已深夜，有一天神殊胜光明遍照园中，来至佛所，
恭敬礼拜，站立一旁，以偈白佛言：

1 Bahū, de,vā, manu,ssā ca
Maṅ,galā,ni acin,tayuṁ,
Ā,kaṅ,kha-mā,nā, so,tthā,naṁ,
Brῡ,hi maṅ,gala mu,ttamaṁ,
1 Many deities and men,
yearning after good, have
pondered on blessings.
Pray, tell me the greatest
blessing.
1 众天神与人，渴望得利益
，沉思求吉祥，请说最吉祥
。

2 Ase,vanā, ca bā,lā,naṁ,
Paṇ,ḍitā,nañ,ca se,vanā,
Pῡ,jā, ca pῡ,ja-ni,yā,naṁ,
E,tam, maṅ,gala mut,tamaṁ,
2 [The Buddha:]
Not to associate with the foolish,
but to associate
with the wise; and to honor those
who are worthy
of honor — this is the greatest
blessing.
2 世尊如是答言：
勿近愚痴人，应与智者交，尊敬有德
者，是为最吉祥。

3 Patirū,pa-de,sa vā,so, ca
Pu,bbe, ca kata-pu,ññatā,
A,tta sa,mmā,paṇidhi ca
E,tam, maṅ,gala mut,tamaṁ,
3 To reside in a
suitable locality, to have
done meritorious
actions in the past and to
set oneself in the right
course — this is the
greatest blessing.
居住适宜处，往昔有德行，置身
于正道，是为最吉祥。

4 Bā,hu sa,ccañ,ca si,ppañ,ca
Vinayo, ca susi,kkhito,
Subhā,sitā, ca yā, vā,cā
E,tam, maṅ,gala mut,tamaṁ,
4 To have much learning,
to be skillful in handicraft,
well-trained in discipline, and
to be of good speech
— this is the highest blessing.
4 多闻工艺精，严持诸禁戒
，言谈悦人心，是为最吉祥。

5 Mā,tā, pitu upa,ṭṭhā,naṁ,
Pu,tta dā,ra,ssa saṅ,gaho,
Anā,kulā, ca kam,man,tā,
E,tam, maṅ,gala mut,tamaṁ,
5 To support mother and
father, to cherish wife and
children, and to be engaged in
peaceful occupation
— this is the highest blessing.
5 奉养父母亲，爱护妻与子，
从业要无害，是为最吉祥。

6 Dā,nañ,ca dham,ma-cariyā, ca
Ñā,takā,nañ,ca saṅ,gaho,
Anava,jjā,ni kam,mā,ni
E,tam, maṅ,gala mut,tamaṁ,
6 To be generous in giving,
to be righteous in conduct, to
help one's relatives, and to be
blameless in action
— this is the highest blessing.
6 布施好品德，帮助众亲眷，
行为无瑕疵，是为最吉祥。

7 Ā,ratī, viratī, pā,pā,
Ma,jja-pā,nā, ca sa,ññamo,
A,ppa-mā,do, ca dham,me,su
E,tam, maṅ,gala mut,tamaṁ,
7 To loathe and
abstain from evil, to
refrain from intoxicants,
and to be steadfast in
virtues — this is the
highest blessing.
7 邪行须禁止，
克己不饮酒，
美德坚不移，是为最吉祥。

10. 10
8 Gā,ravo, ca nivā,to, ca
San,tu,ṭṭhi, ca kata,ññutā,
Kā,le,na dha,mma, sawanaṁ,
E,tam, maṅ,gala mut,tamaṁ,
8 To be respectful, humble,
contented and grateful; and to
listen to the Dhamma from
time to time, — this is the
highest blessing
8 恭敬与谦让，
知足并感恩，及时闻教法，
是为最吉祥。

11. 11
9 Khan,ti, ca so,va,ca,ssatā,
Samaṇā,nañ,ca da,ssanaṁ,
Kā,le,na dha,mma sā,ka,cchā,
E,tam, maṅ,gala mut,tamaṁ,
9 To be patient and obedient,
to often visit holy men,
and to have Dhamma
discussions from time to time,
— this is the highest blessing.
9 忍耐与顺从，得见众沙门，
适时论信仰，是为最吉祥。

10 Tapo, ca brah,macariyañ,ca
Ariya sa,ccā,na da,ssanaṁ,
Ni,bbā,na sa,cchi kiriyā, ca
E,tam, maṅ,gala mut,tamaṁ,
10 Self-restraint and a
holy life, to understand
the Noble Truths and the
realization of Nibbana,
— this is the highest
Blessing.
10 自治净生活，领悟八正道
，实证涅槃法，是为最吉祥。

13. 13
11 Phu,ṭṭha,ssa lo,ka dham,meh,i
Ci,ttaṁ, ya,ssa na kam,pati
Aso,kam, virajaṁ, khē,maṁ,
E,tam, maṅ,gala mut,tamaṁ,
11 He whose mind remains
unmoved when touched by
the problems of the world,
sorrowless, stainless and
secure, — this is the highest
blessing.
11 八风不动心，无忧无污染
，宁静无烦恼，是为最吉祥.

14. 14
12 E,tā,-disā,ni katvā,na
Sa,bba,ttha maparā,jitā,
Sa,bba,ttha so,tthiṁ, ga,cchan,ti
Taṁ, tē,saṁ, maṅ,gala-mut,tamaṁ’ti.
12 To those fulfilling
matters such as these,
everywhere invincible, in
every way moving happily,
— these are the highest
blessings.
12 依此行持者，无往
而不胜，一切处得福，
是为最吉祥.

15. 15
SHARING OF MERITS WITH DEVAS AND ALL BEINGS
回向功德予诸天神与众生 （随喜功德）
Ettā-vātaca amhehi
Sambhatam puñña-sampadam
Sabbe devā
Sabbe bhuta
Sabbe satta anumodantu
Sabba sampatti siddhiyā
May all devas, and all beings share and rejoice in the
merits which we have acquired; may they acquire all
kinds of happiness.
至今为我等
所集功德果
愿诸天及众生随喜
一切得成就

Transference of Merits to the departed
Idam me natinam hotu
Sukhita hontu natayo
( 3 X )
Let this (merit) accrue to our relatives,
and may they be happy.
