Introduction
Information System (IS) is an integrated set of constituents for assembling, storing and
processing data and for providing information, knowledge, and digitized data. Businesses,
firms and other organizations rely on information systems to carry out and manage their
operations, customer and supplier interaction process, market competition etc. Information
technology now a days have become an everyday part of business life.
MIS - Management Information Systems is the use of information technology along with
people, and business processes to record, store and process data to produce information that
decision makers can use to make day-to-day decisions. MIS is a collection of systems,
hardware, procedures and people that all work together are used to process, store, and
produce information which is useful to the organization. The usage of MIS provides four
different types of information: descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive.
The main objective of Management Information System (MIS) is the ownership of the
necessary information on operational performance of the regular organization for planning
and control. Traditional methods such as intuition, general, personal whims and prestige, etc.
considered unnecessary in the process of decision making. Modern Management is constantly
looking for detailed quantitative information that can help analyze the alternatives proposed
and those who choose its decision. Thus, the functions of modern management information
known as "Information Management" and the system by which information communicated to
management called "Management Information System (MIS).

Overview
Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL) is Bangladesh's one of the most innovative and
technologically advanced bank. DBBL stands to provide the most customer friendly &
banking services around Bangladesh. Dutch-Bangla Bank started operation is Bangladesh's
first joint venture bank. The bank was an effort by local shareholders spearheaded by M
Sahabuddin Ahmed (Founding Chairman) and the Dutch company FMO.
From the commencement, the concentration of the bank has been financing high-growth
manufacturing industries in Bangladesh. The rationale being that the manufacturing sector
exports Bangladeshi products worldwide. Thereby financing and concentrating on this sector
allows Bangladesh to achieve the desired growth. Dutch Bangla Bank other focus is
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Dutch Bangla Bank is the pioneer in this sector and
termed the contribution simply as 'Social Responsibility'. Due to its investment in this sector,
Dutch Bangla Bank has become one of the largest donors and the largest bank donor in
Bangladesh. The bank has won numerous international awards because of its unique
approach as a socially conscious bank.
Being one of the first bank in Bangladesh to be fully automated, it created a revolution by
pursuing the mass automation in Banking as a CSR activity and never intended profitability
from this sector. The Electronic-Banking Division was established in 2002 to undertake rapid
automation and bring modern banking services into this field. Full automation completed in
2003, hereby introduced plastic money to the Bangladeshi masses, and now provides
unequaled banking technology offerings to all its customers. However, it has recently stated
that it will stop expansion on its ATM network as the current numbers have exceeded
demand and hence diminishing returns.

Management Information System (MIS) Status of DBBL: Overview
Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL) conducts the daily transaction recording with the help
of Management Information System (MIS) in all the branch computers. These branch
computers are simultaneously connected to the Head Office server. MIS system of DBBL
manages the day-to-day process update on a regular basis. Thousands of transactions per day
turns out to be accurate due to such Information System adaptation around the organization.
This makes the whole process much more quick, simple, accurate and reliable. Due to MIS,
employees can easily connect with other branches, customer service improves, complaints
handled in a swift manner, queries cleared in a short period, prompt online banking services
provided along with numerous other benefits. A more recent addition to the system -
SAS/MDDB server software, gave this bank a multidimensional view of required data
through advanced Online Analytical Processing (OLAP). Due to OLAP, employees can now
"slice and dice" the data according to different dimensions i.e. country, time or specified
service and provide report accordingly to the management.

 Annual Report etc. and many more which were limited for public share due to
organizations confidentiality purpose.
PROCEDURES
There are certain rules, procedures and instructions (user manual) DBBL follows to make
sure MIS system run in a smooth manner. Some general procedures are:
 The Information Management Policies and Procedures will be reviewed on an annual
basis
 Initially each MIS user will receive a paper copy of these Policies and Procedures
 The Information Technology (IT) staff can bypass or make an exception to any
Management Information System (MIS) policy to resolve problems in an emergency
situation or if they diagnose the system as being down
 System Owner is to ensure that third party clients sign a confidentiality agreement and are
assigned the appropriate level of access to the information System
 Where the use of certain media for Information Systems is Confidential or Restricted, the
manner in which this is to be implemented is to be agreed
 The Information Technology department is to provide the mechanisms and infrastructure
for remote access
 The Information Technology department is to operate, support, maintain, and ensure the
ongoing backup of Information Systems as required by Business System Owners, as well
as the testing of backups and the offsite storage of backup media etc. and many more,
which were limited for public share due to organizations confidentiality purpose.
