This campaign is also known as
‘Zero defect, Zero effect’
5. Background
• The aim is to take the share of manufacturing in the
country’s GDP from a 16% to 25% by 2022.
• It was also stated in the National Manufacturing
Policy, and to create 100 million jobs by 2022.
• India had fallen to a lowly 134th rank out of 189
countries this year in the World Bank’s Business
rankings.
6. Make in India: AIM
• To convert India into a global manufacturing
hub, to help create jobs and boost economic
growth.
• To urge both local and foreign companies to
invest in India.
7. Make in India:Logo
• The logo is a striding lion made of cogs,
symbolizing strength, manufacturing and
national pride
8. INTERESTING FINDINGS
• China launched Made in China campaign to
counter India’s Make In India.
• UK on Jan 2015 launched its campaign “Great
Collaborations” to build connections with
Indian industries.
• There is a close correlation between Make In
India and FDI.
9. About Campaign:
• The campaign was designed by the Wieden+Kennedy
group which had previously worked on the Incredible
India campaign and a campaign for the Indian Air Force
• Modi had hinted towards the initiative in
his Independence Day speech of 15 August 2014.
• This campaign was launched on 25 September 2014 in
a function at the Vigyan Bhawan.
10. Objective:
• A major new national program designed to
transform India into a global manufacturing hub.
• The major objective behind the initiative is to focus on 25
sectors of the economy for job creation and skill
enhancement. Some of these sectors
are: automobiles, chemicals, IT, pharmaceuticals, textiles, port
s, aviation, leather, tourism and hospitality, wellness, railways,
auto components, and electronics.
11. Initiative:
• The initiative aims at high quality standards
and minimising the impact on the
environment.
• The initiative hopes to attract capital and
technological investment in India.
• In August 2014, the Cabinet of India allowed
49% FDI in the defence sector and 100%
in railways infrastructure. The defence sector
previously allowed 26% FDI and FDI was not
allowed in railways.
12. Responses:
• In October 2014, Lava Mobiles CMD Hari Om Rai said
Lava will start manufacturing from a Noida plant from
April 2015. In November 2014, Lava was in talks
with Nokia to buy its Chennai plant.
• In January 2015, the Spice Group said it would start a
mobile phone manufacturing unit in Uttar Pradesh with
an investment of ₹500 crore. .
• In January 2015, the President & CEO
of Samsung South West Asia, met with Kalraj Mishra,
Union Minister and decided that Samsung will
manufacture the Samsung Z1 in its plant in Noida.

• In February 2015, Huawei opened a new research
and development (R&D) campus in Bengaluru with
an investment of US$170 million to establish the
research and development center.
• In March 2015, Sony head said at the Mobile World
Congress that they may open a factory in India.
• In February 2015, Hitachi said it was committed to
the initiative.it said that it would increase its
employees in India from 10,000 to 13,000 and it
would try to increase its revenues from India
from ¥100 billion in 2013 to ¥210 billion.
