What Does Beatrice’s Language Show About Her Attitudes...
What does Beatrice s language show about her attitudes towards different men in the two different
scenes you have studied? 10th February 2012
Introduction
Much ado nothing is a romantic Shakespeare play about two couples of lovers. The play is set in
Messina, deep in the heart of Italy and is based in Elizabethan times. The lovers are namely; Claudio
and Hero, Bennedick and Beatrice. Claudio is a noble Florentine count from Florence. Bennedick is a
war hero from Padua. Both are honourable war heroes fighting for Don Pedro the prince of Aragon.
Beatrice is the niece of Leonato the Governor of Messina. At the beginning of the play Don Pedro and
his valiant fighters return from the wars to Messina. While at Messina Claudio immediately falls ...

However beneath all this fancy language we can derive that Bennedick was painted all over Beatrice s
thoughts and she cannot resist asking about his well being. When the messenger states he knows none
of that name, Hero her cousin says My cousin means Signor Bennedick of Padua this clearly shows
that not only is Bennedick and Beatrice s thoughts he is also a subject of conversation and discussion
between Beatrice and Hero.
The way Beatrice speaks seemingly spitefully about Bennedick shows us she is perhaps interested in
Bennedick and trying not to arouse the suspicion of the messenger and her uncle. By adding sarcastic
comments and insults where Bennedick name appears shows us she is trying hard not to bring out her
real feelings for him, the name Signor Mountanto is one of the names Beatrice has devised to insult
Bennedick however the fact that the name is so complex in meaning and the inside joke so well
thought out shows us she has really thought about this insult and it has not an insult off the top of her
head. Beatrice is more devious and careful about relationships than Claudio who seems rather
desperate to get with Hero and throw himself headfirst into a relationship that he perhaps knows
nothing about. This suggests perhaps she has more experience in love and relationships and has also
experienced disappointment and is afraid of it.
STEP 3
When Bennedick and Beatrice meet they immediately engage in a fierce verbal battle,

International Income Tax
Question 1. The source method of tax collection generally involves the primary right of a country a
business is using as its main location of trading to tax this business according to its income. This is a
general international state practice, which is also anchored in double taxation agreements. The source
system means that income is taxed in the country where the income originates, regardless of factors
such as physical or legal residence of the person or entity receiving the income. The source system is
based on the fact that the business or entity receiving the income is making use of the source country s
resources. Additionally, such a system also implicates fair competition between taxpayers among
various jurisdictions. Income from lotteries, gambling, personal injury awards, gifts, and capital gains
are not characterized as source incomes in a country, which means that such earnings are not subjected
to this type of income tax. Another interesting point is that source system countries have extended
their taxation scope by considering certain types of income that do not have a true source as sourced
within their jurisdictions, such as dividends. These are then also deemed taxable by the countries
involved. The source based method differs from the residence method of taxation in that a country
considers a person who has earned income within its borders as subject to taxes payable to the
authority of that country. The residence system, on the other hand,

An Analysis Of Alexandre Dumas Davy De La Pailleterie
Alexandre Dumas Alexandre Dumas Davy de la Pailleterie, the author of The Three Musketeers, was
born in Villers Cotterets, France on July 24, 1802. His father, also named Alexandre Dumas, was a
general in Napoleon s army. When the author was only four years old, his father died, and he and his
two siblings were raised in poverty by his mother, Marie Louise Elizabeth Davy de la Pailleterie. He
went a private school for a short period of time before he started teaching himself and becoming
homeschooled. In 1823, he moved to Paris, where he was able to obtain a comfortable job as a clerk
for the Duke of Orleans. By this time, he had developed passions for the ladies and for the theater
(Alexandre Dumas). After being inspired by watching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Almost all of his renowned books were collaborations with other writers, primarily Auguste Maquet.
Their works included The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo. These novels were
initially broken down into serials in magazines instead of complete books. Because of all his successes
with his novels, the 1840s were the apex of his finances, and he was able to build a luxurious estate.
Although Dumas created some of the best known plays and novels in the world, he suffered from
many setbacks which ultimately led to his death. He created a controversial, yet popular play in 1832
called The Tower of Nesle. The play depicted many of the vices of the preceding king and was
disliked by the new king, Louis Philippe. As a result, the author was exiled from France for a short
period of time. He suffered from bankruptcy from wasting too much money on his estate and giving
lavish gifts to women. He escaped his creditors by fleeing to Brussels. After he returned to Paris, he
worked tirelessly to pay his debts. He created two newspaper companies, which survived about three
years each. Then, he had to retreat to first son s home in 1870 because of the Prussian occupation of
Paris in the Franco Prussian War. He died two years later in poverty and declining spirits on December
fifth at seventy years old (DISCovering Authors).

Convicts Vs Slavery In Australia
The experiences of slaves, free settlers and convicts differed greatly. Slaves and convicts were similar;
they had to do labour and had no freedom, whereas free settlers lived with freedom and peace.
A slave is a person who was the legal property of another person. In this context, they were Africans
that were abducted from their homes and shipped to North America. Slaves were poorly treated and
physically abused. Both men and women were treated like animals. Slaves had to do an obscene
amount of labour, often to exhaustion and sometimes until death. They usually had to do agricultural
work such as picking cotton, harvesting sugar cane, planting and harvesting rice, harvesting tobacco,
growing and harvesting coffee, building railroads, weaving, carpentry, washing clothes, cooking and
more. They had no control of what they had to do, as they had to obey their owners. The housing that
slaves lived in was atrocious. Slaves usually had to make their own homes. There were up to ten
slaves per hut. Their beds were made from straw or old rags. A quote from someone who has
witnessed the cruelness of slavery: For black men and women, slavery was an equally ... Show more

They were usually very wealthy. They ran farms and employed convicts to care for the farms. They
lived peaceful lives with not many problems. Their experience was very different to that of slaves or
convicts. However, life was not always easy. They had little to no form of entertainment, no running
water, no electricity and no motor vehicles. Transport took very long. They travelled on horses and
used oxen for transporting goods. In addition, there was no roads, paths or highways to follow.
Furthermore, they were isolated from other towns and rarely visited any place due to the slow
transportation. Life was boring and slow, but it was not as bad as being a slave or a

The Jungle by Upton Sinclair Essay
The Jungle, written by Upton Sinclair was a very touching and motivating story. Sinclair aimed for
our hearts, but instead, he hit our stomachs. The Jungle is a story of hardships and trouble, some
successes and many failures as a family tries to achieve the American Dream. In this book, The Jurgis
Ruckus myth of failure is the other side of the Horatio Alger s myth of success. (xxvi) Although this
book was written about the hardships of a family, it was not just a story for one to read and feel
sympathy for the family, but it had many real life reasons behind the events that went on and
happened. Sinclair wanted to open the eyes of people and make them aware of what was going on, and
ultimately, wanted to start a revolution to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Jurgis looking for a job) He stood in the doorway, looking mournfully on, seeing his friends and
companions at work, and feeling like and outcast. Then he went out and took his place with the mob
of the unemployed But there was no work for him He wandered all day through the buildings; in a
week or two, when he had been all over the yards, and into every room to which he has access, and
learned that there was not a job anywhere there was nothing more for him to do but go with the
crowd in the morning and keep in the front row and look eager. (p. 148 149)
This insert above is a prime example of the hardships of finding jobs during this time. So many people
were looking for jobs and the demand for them was a lot higher than the supply of them. Once people
found jobs, the working conditions were terrible. A new idea came about called speeding up where
once the workers reached a pace, then, they would speed them up more and working at outrageous
speeds. If one could not keep up with the speed and the job, they would get the boot and be replaced
by someone else looking for a job.
It was the first time in his life he had ever really worked and that he had ever had anything to do
which took all he had in him (He) stood with the rest up in the gallery and watched the men on the
killing beds, marveling at their speed and power and never occurred to one to think of the flesh and
blood side of it – that

No One Is A Little Holy Without Suffering
No one is a little holy without suffering... Brideshead Revisited The novel Brideshead Revisited by
Evelyn Waugh is the story of Captain Charles Ryder s interactions with the Marchmain family. It
begins when he meets Sebastian Flyte at Oxford University; from there the novel tells the tale of
Charles s life and his time with Sebastian s family where Charles eventually falls for Sebastian s sister
Julia. This novel takes place during the time periods of World War I and World War II in which
Charles participates in. Wars can be times of confusion and turmoil. Especially, World Wars that
include many different countries and are essentially affecting the whole world. The word backdrop
means background or setting. Using World War I and World War II as the backdrops set up a certain
tone for the novel in which the characters also have an internal war between happiness and religion
amongst themselves as well as the external wars. Sebastian struggles with drinking to escape the his
true vocation and the troubles of the real world. During this time period, teenagers and young adults
were called Bright Young Things. They were given this title due to the reckless and flamboyant
activities they would participate in. The Bright Young Things could have acted in this manner for a
myriad of reasons during this time, but each reason was connected to the war ( Bright Young Things).
Sebastian and Charles could be considered apart of this group. Sebastian s recklessness could be

The Death Of A Fountain
It was hot. So hot, that sweat caused clothes clung to all skin it came into contact with. This sweat was
dripping off her as if it was forced water cascading from a small opening at the top of the head of a
statue standing in the center of a fountain. However, it wasn t a statue standing in the center of a
fountain, but a small child on her knees leaning up against a wall. If this was not the worst bed bell
dream a child receive as a gift, then the horror that came next to mind was told true. There was the
taste of blueberries in her mouth that did nothing to help with the discomfort and had only added more
sorrow to what she was now experiencing. Wherever this hot dark place was and where the tang of
blueberry in her mouth came from, only the gods knew and she was too young to be recognized by
them as one of their servants to ask those questions. This only added to the enormous mountain of
confusion her mind was unsuccessfully trying to sort out. The last thing she remembered was of a
wonderful bed bell dream gift, but it had suddenly turned dark and scary. Her mother and father both
had tears in their eyes and her father more so of the two. She was chosen to go on a very important
adventure, but she had to do so without him. Just the thought of doing something this important
without her father felt terribly wrong. She could not remember a moment when she did not have her
father near. It mattered little if it was to break their fast at dawn, share sun high

Determining Suitability Of The International Market Based...
3. Identify and use criteria to determine suitability of the international market based on criteria
included in the Marketing Plan and/or included in country profiles on the TTNQ web site. Then based
on these criteria, discuss which of the 2 countries that you have researched offers the offers the best
potential for TTNQ? Why? Which factors were important in making your decision? Selected countries
Reasons Factors important in making the decision Thailand Economic Considerations: Thailand is
great developing country because of the smart economic policies but political environment is not
stable so there is effect for investors to pay attention much to invest. Anticipated cost to provide
service or product: The cost of service should have to set at reasonable price which is not too high due
to the exchange rate in Thailand and Australia are much different so that it affect to cost of service and

FT IR spectrum The major peaks are C=O, O H, N H, C=C, and NO2.1 A peak between 1660 and
1820 cm 1 (presence of C O) and a broad peak between 2400 and 3400cm 1 (presence of O H)
indicates the presence of carboxylic acid (COOH). In this graph there is a peak at 3248 cm 1 (C O)
and a peak at 1589 cm 1 (O H) which confirms the presence of carboxylic acid. To confirm the
presence of amides, a medium absorption near 3400 cm 1 should be observed which is the case in this
graph. Absorptions in the region of 1450 to 1600 cm 1 often designate an aromatic ring and when
consulting the C H region we can confirm its aromatic since the peak is to the left of the 3000 cm 1.
Nitro groups give two strong absorptions at 1530 1600 cm 1 and 1300 1390 cm 1. H NMR spectrum
Nuclei tend to be deshielded by groups which withdraw electron density. Deshielded nuclei resonate at
higher δ values, whereas shielded nuclei resonate at lower δ values.Examples of electron withdrawing
substituents are OH, OCOR, OR, NO2 and halogens. Discussion: We began this experiment by
weighing out the known values of mass for 1 chloro 2,4 dinitrobenzene and m aminobenzoic acid
which was 1.012g and 0.686g respectively. These values were calculated before the experiement based
on the mole ratios of the balanced equation in question. Here the reaction was a 1:1 ratio so we were
able to determine the theoretical mass of our product, m (2,4 dinitroanilino)

Peru Illegal Mining
Illegal mining in the Peruvian Amazon has led to crime, deforestation and mercury poisoning in local
villages and has further weakened the economy. Peru is the largest producer of gold in South America,
the sixth largest in the world and in recent years Peru s remote Amazon rainforest has become a
hotspot for illegal mining. An estimated ten to thirty thousand illegal miners work day in and day out
to remove flecks of gold from Amazonian soil using cyanide, mercury, lead and arsenic which has in
turn contaminated water sources and poisoned many in rural villages. Mining camps run rampant with
crime, including sex trafficking and slave labor, poaching is common and litter is scattered
everywhere. These miners have come from cities across Peru ... Show more content on

It should be enough to spur the government into action, to enforce more laws and regulations and send
more military forces out to take out the operations, but it s not. Peru s economy has gone through
many changes but it is largely based on the original Incan economical system which ran based on
geographical location and what the areas had to offer. Commercial mining is the second largest
contributor the economy today, it accounts for roughly sixty percent of the country s exports and with
more than eighty companies and two hundred commercial mines it s not surprising. However, the
illegal mining bandwagon has taken a big hit to the profits coming from mining. An estimated one
billion dollars worth of gold is smuggled out of the country each year. Police are having some luck
catching and arresting those who smuggle either at airports or border crossings it won t be enough to
stop them completely. Losing all this money each year and not having enough soldiers to stop and
illegal gold rush on top of a large rate of poverty, unemployed and homeless and many other things
sounds like a frustrating situation. Compared to other countries and their economies Peru doesn t seem
very well off unfortunately. While it s hard to say whether illegal or commercial mining is doing more
damage, it s fair to say they are both taking their toll on the

Political Elites And Non Elites Among Nations
Many consider political elites to be the upper echelon of society and of our generation. Specifically,
political elites in many countries around the world, regardless of the type of government they possess,
have the influence, wealth, clout, and savvy to determine the outcome of elections in politics as well
as impact the lives of the general population, given their respective countries. Similar to the concept of
Communism, the select few comprised of the elite group in certain countries make the majority of the
decisions with no consequences or repercussions; regardless of how right or wrong that decision may
be. The separation of elites and non elites among nations is extremely staggering mainly due to the
fact that: the distribution of political power is skewed, leaders and elites are conscious of what they
possess politically, they are coherent within the realm of politics (i.e. economic status, defense
spending, campaign funding), conspire with one another when decision making, and they answer to no
one higher than them because of their status. Two primary examples of countries with political elites
present are China and Lebanon. Both countries, although they may not solely advocate such status, tie
in political elites with their respective forms of government (Communism for China) and forms of
religion (Confessionalism for Lebanon). Moreover, although both countries possess the capacity and
discipline to survive and thrive without the presence of political

Mountains Beyond Mountains Summary
Dokte Paul. the first part of the book titled Mountains Beyond Mountains, begins when author and
journalist Tracy Kidder first met Dr. Farmer in Haiti. Kidder describes Dr. Farmer as a big shot Boston
doctor who has chosen to do humanitarian type work in Haiti even though he could have an easy
career as a lecturer back in Boston. Kidder realizes that Dr. Farmer is the atypical doctor who would
rather get to know his patients as people and cares about their health holistically instead of just
treating the symptoms and moving on. The next year, Dr. Farmer invites Kidder back to Haiti with
him, and Kidder begins to observe Dr. Farmer at work. Kidder notices that Dr. Farmer s patients and
co workers call him Dokte Paul; the word dokte is Haitian Creole for doctor. Kidder also observes the
unsanitary conditions of life in the Cange region of Haiti. There, Dr. Farmer established the charity
called Zamni Lasante, which is Haitian Creole for friend health. This charity not only provides low
cost or free medical care, it also builds houses and schools. Dr. Farmer often uses his own money to
help keep the charity going, and lives very modestly despite being a successful physician. Dr. Farmer
begins educating journalist Kidder about the Haitian people, the health issues they face, and some of
their superstitions. He also explains the Haitian proverb, mountains beyond mountains, which means
that for every metaphorical mountain a person climbs,

Summary OfHow Junk Food Can End Obesity
In How Junk Food Can End Obesity David H. Freedmen expresses the efforts of the fast food
corporations in giving healthier alternatives to their foods and explaining that wholesome foods are
not as good for a person as they may believe. Freedmen s article, uses research, first hand accounts,
and strong claims with detailed analysis. He gives the reader multiple sources for his argument, and
solutions to the problem of unhealthy eating, not open ended theories that do not have any concrete
evidence. Freedman uses firsthand accounts to convey that he s on the same level as the reader, the
problem does not just only affect them but also him. At the beginning of the article he compares two
healthy smoothies and that of a known to be unhealthy smoothie, I finally hit the sweet spot just a few
weeks later, in Chicago, with a delicious blueberry pomegranate smoothie that rang in at a relatively
modest 220 calories. It cost $3 and took only seconds to make. (Freedman 507). Comparing products
like a consumer gives Freedman credibility. This comparison sets up the argument of that these
healthy foods are not as healthy as they claim to be. Interviewing big name food companies, small
food companies, research labs, among other groups and indaviduals, show that Freedman has a
ligament point to get across. He has done his research, the claims he is making are not just that of
theoretical but of what food experts believe and what they are actually doing to resolve the problems.

Analysis Of Mrs. Se s By Lahiri
Encaged
In the story Mrs. Sen s , Lahiri presents the struggles of assimilating into a new country and portrays
how lonely and restricted immigrants can feel causing them to hold on to their past. She is able to do
this through her use of the character, Mrs. Sen, a woman who is originally from India. Throughout the
story we see how difficult it is for Mrs. Sen to assimilate to the lifestyle in America. Her days, usually
consist of staying in an apartment while her husband teaches at a nearby university. Mrs. Sen s Indian
lifestyle still seems very prominent, all her furniture is still wrapped in plastic, the shoes are all lined
in a bookcase by the front door, she refuses to purchase fish from the supermarket and she uses an
abnormal blade to do her cooking. All of this illustrating how perhaps she is not ready to let go of her
Indian lifestyle and assimilate. Mrs. Sen is representative of the struggles of assimilation. The
inevitability of feeling lonely and facing many restrictions results in Mrs. Sen constantly grasping on
to whatever part of India she has left. Without even realizing this she prevents herself from
assimilating. She always relies on Mr. Sen, she barely knows anybody, she often misses her family
and she cannot seem to make America feel like home. Throughout the story we begin to notice how in
America, Mrs. Sen is a somewhat lonely person. This, however is not by choice. She does not know
too many people other than her husband, a man who calls

The Types Of Support That An End User May Require
Chapter 2: Literature Review
The four types of support that an end user may require are general support, functional support, data
support, and purchasing support. General support includes networks, software, hardware, and other
training related support (Govindarajulu, 2014). General Support is the only form of support that will
be included in this study. A university will on average work only with general support for their users.
While some authors (Gibson, 2014, for example) focus on a general overview of help desk
requirements, others PChelps (2008) look more closely at different aspects including costs, where
users get their support (Govindarajulu, 2014), and how to evaluate a help desk (Sheehan, 2007). This
case study will take a quantitative approach to evaluation of a help desk instead of a qualitative as
other researchers have conducted. This literature review will discuss how the help desk affects a
company s reputation, the costs it has to a company, how a help desk can be evaluated, and how to
improve a help desk s customer service.
Purpose of Help Desk
The purpose of a help desk is to provide internal users (employees or students) and external users with
technical support. This support is optimizing computer software, network troubleshooting, virus
removal, password resets, and any other types of computer related problems that the user may
encounter (Gibson, 2014). The help desk staff is generally the most likely to be contacted by users,

The Stages Of Non Rem Sleep
The stages of non REM sleep, stages 1 3, are defined by EEG activity. Slow wave sleep in stage 3 is
the deepest stage of sleep. Alertness consists of desynchronized beta activity (13 30 Hz); relaxation
and drowsiness consist of alpha activity (8 12 Hz); stage 1 sleep consists of alternating periods of
alpha activity, irregular fast activity, and theta activity (3.5 7.5 Hz); the EEG of stage 2 sleep lacks
alpha activity but contains sleep spindles (short periods of 12 14 Hz activity) and occasional K
complexes; stage 3 sleep primarily consists of delta activity. About 90 minutes after the beginning of
sleep, people enter REM sleep. Thereafter, cycles of REM and non REM sleep occur in periods of
approximately 90 minutes. Muscle tone decreases throughout the stages, resulting in deepest
relaxation and paralysis in REM sleep (Carlson Birkett, p. 268).
The rate of cerebral blood flow during REM sleep is high in the extrastriate cortex but low in the
striate cortex and the prefrontal cortex. This activity reflects a lack of visual in put in REM (little or no
activation in the striate cortex), but the presence of active visual hallucinations during dreaming
(activation in the extrastriate cortex). Lack of prefrontal cortex activity likely reflects the lack of
organization and planning that occur in dreams. Regional cerebral blood flow during slow wave sleep
is generally decreased throughout the brain compared to waking. However, some researchers have
found localized increases

Comparison between Metropolis and Blade Runner
Comparison between Metropolis and Blade Runner
From the silent epic of Fritz Lang Metropolis 1927 to Ridley s Scott s spectacular Blade Runner 1982
the connection between architecture and film has always been intimate. The most apparent concepts
that connect these two films are the overall visuals of both films and their vision of city of the future.
The futuristic city of both Scott and Lang are distinct in their landscapes, geography, and social
structure. These two films sought to envision a future where technology was the basis by which
society functioned. Technology was the culture and the cities would crumble without it. Metropolis
and Blade Runner uses the themes relationships amongst female sexuality and male vision, and
technology. However, Gender roles and technology seems to be the most important part in both films.
Blade Runner became a cult classic. The film may have survived long enough to benefit from a
renewed taste for darker, more violent sci fi. It s appeal has less to do with a fascination for outer
space (which does not feature beyond reference in a few lines of dialogue) than with a vision of earth
and humankind in the near future (Roberts and Wallis Pg 157 8). Both films have a timeless quality to
it, as they are representative of the future of our planet earth. I find it so interesting that even though
these films were made in different times their ideas about the futuristic city and society are almost
identical.
The futuristic aspect of these

Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises Essay
Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises
The title and narrative focus of Ernest Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises are rooted in a passage from
the Ecclesiastes. In referencing this book of the Hebrew Bible, Hemingway resorts to aged scripture to
unearth steadfast truths. His novel uses old world beliefs to provide a solution for modern day issues,
asserting the undeniable value of tradition. The applicability of the Ecclesiastes passage to
Hemingway s portrait of hopelessness in the post Great War generation demonstrates that a
reconnection with the natural world will reverse the unnatural consequences of a meaningless war and
permit the reestablishment of hope within the following generation.

Hemingway depicts the expatriates disconnect from the natural world in order to portray this
generation s improbable renewal. After participating in a war which went against the principles of
nature in its needless destruction, the expatriates have lost comprehension of the inherently human
will to desire and consequently accomplish. This cyclical course of completed events is lacking in the
expatriates lives and is replaced by a linear repetition which conveys emptiness. Through detachment
from traditional human passions, the expatriates misunderstand fundamental laws of nature. Passing a
taxidermist in Paris, Bill suggests that Jake purchase a stuffed dog. He refers to the practice of
taxidermy as a simple exchange of values. You give them money. They give you a stuffed dog (p. 78).
Bill exalts a pattern formed by commerce and artificiality, which replaces the traditional cycle of death
and rebirth. He continues to describe a future purchase of a horse cab stuffed for Christmas (p. 79).
The traditional holiday of Christmas, defined by its generous and genuine gifts, is converted into a
mocking showcase of falsely preserved nature. Hemingway concludes this passage with Bill s
assertion, I m a nature writer, (p. 80) an ironic statement which illuminates a lack of knowledge for his
field due to a misconception of the natural cycle. Stuffed animals

Analysis Of The Adoration Of The Shepherds
The Adoration of the Shepherds was painted by Francesco Fontebasso in the mid 18th century.
Francesco Fontebasso (4 October 1707 31 May 1769) was an Italian painter of the late Baroque period
of Venice. He first apprenticed with Sebastiano Ricci, but was strongly influenced by his
contemporary, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo. In 1761, Fontebasso visited Saint Petersburg and produced
ceiling paintings and decorations for the Winter Palace. Fontebasso Painting The Adoration of the
Shepherds depicts Marry holding the Christ Child as he lay on a bed of straw, one old man kneeling
with hands clasped at right and the other two men standing admiring the child Christ, a woman behind
with a basket and two putti Pen and Angles hovering over them.
The Adoration of the Shepherds illustrates the three wise men visit to Mary and their gifts

Compare And Contrast The Chesapeake And New England Colonies
When comparing and contrasting the Chesapeake and New England colonies you find that there are
many differences and a few similarities. These differences and similarities revolve around the colonies
geography, economic characteristics, religious characteristics, and why they were founded. These
differences developed in the colonies based off where they are, how they were ran, and how wealthy
they were. The development of these colonies also affected the American Indians in a few different
ways. Let start by comparing major difference of the geography between Chesapeake and New
England colonies. New England colonies had cold weather and poor dry soil which made for a short
growing season. This made it harder to grow food so most families just had a small farm for personal
gain, there weren t plantations. The New England colonies also had natural harbors and a lot of the
land was covered in forests. In contrast to the New England colonies the Chesapeake colonies has hot
humid weather, with long growing seasons, and excellent soil that was great for plantation and along
with rivers that flowed throughout the colonies. Now let s take a look at the differences in the
economical characteristics between the colonies. In New England because of their geographical
conditions they couldn t grow crops in large plantation to make profits so they had to rely on other
means to make income. Since the land was covered in forests they use the timber to expand the
shipbuilding industries. They

Archduke Franz Ferdinand s Role In World War 1
The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was a major provoking factor for World War 1. The
heir to the Austro Hungarian Empire, Archduke Franz Ferdinand was under fire for the decision to
annex the Balkans. This decision infuriated Serbian nationals there who believed they should be
allowed to join Serbia who was newly independent; the decision also strengthened Serbian nationalist
groups. Franz Ferdinand was in Sarajevo to inspect his troops there on the day he was assassinated.
The Black Hand Gang was responsible for the death of the Archduke and his wife. The Austria
Hungarian government blamed Serbia for the attacks. After failed negotiations, Austria declared war

More specifically, the role of women in society changed. While men were away at war, women often
took over business operations. In fact, by 1918, nearly three million women were employed in the
textile, food, and war industries. Many restrictions on women s participation in these industries were
torn down during World War 1. Women slowly started gaining more social responsibilities. They
started working as streetcar conductors and radio operators; they also worked in logging camps and
steel mills. During the war, they not only had to support their households, but also the war effort. After
the war, their labor was far from over. It was now more socially acceptable to continue working. In
addition, many men died in the war and women had to work single handedly to support their family.
The public view of war changed after World War 1. Before the war, the public had seen war as it was
in the 1800s with large armies attacking each other in open fields in battles that rarely lasted for more
than a day. However, new technology and tactics made warfare much more gruesome. One tactic
became known as trench warfare. When the British released a realistic film about the Battle of the
Somme, a battle fought by Britain and France against Germany, the public was shocked. Soldiers no
longer participated in distinct battles; they could be attacked at any time of day. This constant state of
fear had obvious psychological effects. The public became disillusioned about war due to the large
body counts as well. Pacifism became more popular as a result. The growth of independence
movements was another important effect of the war. In territories controlled by Russia and England in
particular, independence movements became common. The colonies had been largely neglected over
the four years the countries were at war, and they finally saw their opportunity to rise up. During the
war, the colonies had quietly become less reliant on

The movement of NFL players kneeling during the national anthem is a symbol of peaceful protesting.
It does not symbolize a rebellion, it instead serves as the way to get the point across that the people

no disrespect to veterans or any other patriot who has fought and/or died for the United States.

The Controversy Of Seawater Banning
Our plan has the United States Department of Interior banning all commercial fishing in Marine
Protected Areas, and establishing and enforcing regulations for the recreational use of these areas. The
practice of bottom trawling will be banned in U.S. ocean fisheries. This plan will decrease the worry
of losing all our fish in the sea. We are harvesting more fish that can be replenished, so banning the
practice of bottom trawling and other fishing practices in Marine Protected Areas put fish like tuna in
danger. The decrease in tuna cause the marine food chain to change thus causing an abundance of
smaller fish such as sardines and anchovies. Declines of top predators may cascade down food webs,

Our plan of the United States Department of Interior banning all commercial fishing in Marine
Protected Areas, and establishing and enforcing regulations for the recreational use of these areas fits
to the resolved. The program will be run directly from the government as said from the plan. Our plan
will be saving our nation approximately $250 million of discarded fish. The amount of fish we have
wasted is breaking down. This plan will help to restore our marine ecosystems so we are able to have
another millennia of fish to eat. Our plan also will promote the development of the Earth s oceans.
According to Ocean Conservancy, Underwater parks, called marine protected areas...allow fish to

Feast Of The Tabernacle Research Paper
It was that Jesus was attending the Feast of the Tabernacle which was one of the three annual feasts
that all the males of Israel were expected to attend. Jesus was hesitant about attending because He
knew the religious leaders were seeking to kill him. This was because earlier in the Scriptures Jesus
healed a man on the Sabbath day who had been sick for 38 years (5:5 15). Additionally, they also
wanted to kill him because He said: God was his Father, making himself equal to God (5:18). Jesus
said, though, that the world hated him because He ... testifies of it that its works are evil (John 7:7).
Nevertheless, He decided to attend this five day feast and, in the middle of the feast, He began

A Symbolic Activity Essay
Memorialization as a Symbolic Activity There is a growing awareness that addressing past injustices
are crucial for the process of healing and reconciliation. In order to move towards a peaceful future,
governments must acknowledge and respond to the wrongs and injustices of the past. While there is an
agreement between people that the process of reconciliation must acknowledge the wrongs of the past
and the victims, many scholars debate about how such acknowledgments are best communicated, so
that they will be sufficiently credible and effective in improving future relations. In fact, many argue
that memory is crucially important as a response to past injustices, especially when dealing with
human rights violations. Memorializing the past, through memorials, commemorative ceremonies,
etc., is widely promoted as a valuable way of redressing the wrongs of the past. But what kind of
redress can memorials provide, and how can they advance in transitional justice? Indeed, I consider
these symbolic reparations to be a double edged sword due to the strengths and weaknesses, it presents
as a practice for redressing the losses that were suffered by victims. In recent years, forgiveness has
attracted attention as a possible response of victims to perpetrators in past violent human rights
abuses. Moreover, transitional justice focuses on the effective and legitimate ways of addressing past
wrongs and moving towards achieving political reconciliation and re establishing societies

Competitive Advantage

able to understand how to go about getting that idea advantage. There are ways that aid a business in
reaching the levels of success. With the competitive analysis you have five areas that have to be
analyzed in order to be competitive.
Being able to be competitive within the industry is a key element. Since it is overloaded with larger
firms it will be vital to lock in on services that the larger firms find not to be important to success. I
feel that one of my secrets will be utilizing my creativity within the marketing, finding lenders,
offering that extra care in customer service, and our company s integrity. By staying true to values,
will appeal to the general public in positive ways. That is when my company will become a household
name. Keeping meeting schedule on a timely basis will allow my company to see where we are at
within the month and billing cycles. This will inform us as to which direction we need to improve on.
Offering services and property that the larger firms do not feel will benefit their business will be huge
steps for the success within my company. Even this will have to be done with caution, in order to
make sure the revenue will be beneficial for everyone involved. Keeping my cost within my budget

changes, almost becoming gloomy. The author feels caged like this bird as he is trying to beat his

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised By Gil Scott Heron
In the 1960s, the Civil rights movement faced many challenges, a lack of media was one of them. The
media managed to cover a lot of the events that happened during the movement. However, the media
coverage still failed to bring the right amount of attention to the issue at hand. T.V. shows and
advertisements did not change or show any support. Even though a change was taking place, the
messages were not being shown to the American public. With that being said, the black power
movement had a saying for this The Revolution Will Not Be Televised .
The Revolution Will Not be Televised was written by Gil Scott Heron in 1970. This was during the
time after the Civil right movement was big. Equality was still a struggle, but things were coming
along, as blacks were finally getting some notice in things. The Government treated black like they

Heron was raised by his maternal grandmother, Lillie Scott, In Jackson Tennessee. He later moved to

the ACES sought to gain approval from COPA, was by creating intentionally distinct entry level

establishments, such as American Psychological Association (APA). Other precursors, such as a push

The Economics Of Developing Israel
Since Israel s creation in 1948, it has economically risen through the ranks all the way to one of the

is the competition theory, which claims that the Homo sapiens and Neanderthals had to compete for
resources, ultimately leading to their demise. The second theory I will discuss is the climate change
theory, which claims that Homo sapiens lived while Neanderthals died because they were better
adapted to the climate. The last theory I will discuss is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Upon investigating the bones Schmerling did not recognize them as a distinct species (Sawyer et al.
2007).The first true Neanderthal was discovered in the Neander Valley, near Dusseldorf in 1856 by a
group of miners who were blasting out a cave in the area. When the crew uncovered archaic bones
they contacted a local schoolteacher, Johann Karl Fuhlrott. Fuhlrott was the first to recognize the
fossils as a new species. In 1864, William King in the Quarterly Journal of Science identified this new
species as Homo neanderthalensis after the location of its unearthing (Sawyer et al. 2007).
Dietary Differences
The diets of Homo neanderthalensis and Homo sapiens are very different. The diet of the Homo
sapiens shows how they were learning to adapt better to their environment, while the Neanderthals
were very set in how they gathered food. Studies of nitrogen preserved in the bones of Neanderthals
have shown that they consumed a substantial quantity of meat; comparable to that eaten by
contemporary wolves (Delson et. al 2006). The current interpretation of the Neanderthal diet is that
they were most likely hunters rather than scavengers (Delson et. al 2006). It was once thought that the
Neanderthal diet was comprised mainly of meat due plant life being seasonal in the cold climate they
inhabited. Evidence suggests however that the Middle East Neanderthals ... living in the relatively
warmest climate consume mostly meat (Sawyer et al. 2007) proving that

Boudicca Significance
For my investigation, I chose to evaluate the significance of Boudicca and her impact on British
history. This was topic that really interested me as I had seen the statue of her in London and thought
her story was fascinating. All I knew about her was that was she was an ancient Celtic Queen who
opposed the occupying forces of Rome then poisoned herself so that she couldn t be held prisoner.
However, there was an abundance of information that available for me to use so I could find out more
about my chosen personality. There were many advantages to choosing Boudicca to investigate,
however, I had to work around the issue of reliability within many of the sources. Despite that, this
topic proved to be a good choice for me. I ve always had an interest in British history. To me,
Boudicca was a personality that seemed to have a significant impact and influence within this topic,
and as such seemed like the best person for me to investigate. She was a strong and inspiring ... Show

I was unsure as to what type of information I would find on Boudicca and if there was an appropriate
controversy I could investigate. I started by doing general research on her to gain a historical context,
and then I started narrowing it down to why she and the other Celt s revolted against the Roman s, and
what impact this had on society. During this started developing my thesis, which went through a series
of adjustments until I decided upon evaluate the significance of Boudicca and her impact on British
history. I then gathered all of the information I was going to use in my investigation, and analysed the
sources that this was coming from to ensure everything was correct. Once I started, I was surprised by
how much I was able to find and how relevant most of the information was. I was able to then easily
develop my question and then start focussing my research gathering onto certain aspects of Boudicca s
life and

Hurricane Mitch
In all of the texts Memories of the Flood, Hurricane Mitch, and Teacher Rescued at Sea they all tell
and show about how people had to deal with a long term problem caused by the destruction of
hurricane Mitch. The impact that this hurricane were similar and different in each story but it was still
heartbreaking. In the article Memories of the Flood many cars and even some houses were under
water and left many homeless. In addition the article Hurricane Mitch many people s houses and land
were destroyed by mud, also there food population went down by a lot so many people were left
starving. Finally in the article Teacher Rescued at Sea a women has lossed her really close family
members including her three kids and husband when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of these similarities were that in each article Memories of the Flood, Hurricane Mitch, and
Teacher Rescued at Sea something was taken away from somebody or a large a population that they
loved. For example in the article Memories of the Flood 600 acres of farming land was drenched in
water and all of the plants and crops has died, According to the text it states If the rains did not stop,
we knew, the seeds and soil would wash away. . Also in the article Hurricane Mitch Farming property
homes were destroyed by mud, mud cover acres of land across many islands and countries, there were
only a few houses left and very little food so most people were left starving, According to the text it
states Tons and tons of mud flowed down the hillsides and covered whole towns it also states the
hurricane pounded the island and destroyed almost everything in sight. It ripped up houses, boats,
docks, telephone poles, and roads. Many people have went homeless and some have died of
starvation. Finally In the article Teacher Rescued at Sea a teacher, wife, and mother has lost her house
and her children due to this hurricane, there house has been washed away along with everybody else.
According to the text it states that was the last time Mrs. Arriola saw the rest of her family alive. The
force of the water soon separated all of them and washed them out to sea, Mrs Arriola will never
overcome this problem. These similarities show how a hurricane can take something that is so
valuable and loved away from

Relationship Between Societies Of Today And The Environment
An interdisciplinary program presented is an investigation of the relationship between societies of
today and the environment they/we live in. In my focus particularly are societies of the Westernized
parts of the world. Their activities within, attitudes towards, values regarding and comprehensiveness
of the complexity of the environment they live and operate in. Consequently, my personal goal is to
gain a deep knowledge of the interconnectedness of human activity and alterations it does to the
environment. Equally, I also aim to understand how attitudes and values (towards the environment)
are passed from generations to generations. After successfully accomplishing studies, my goal is to
collaborate with the representatives of the younger generations to and promote awareness of their
deportment on the more global scale. Academically, my strategy is to pursue Individualized Major in
Environment and Society and to successfully accomplish Minor in Psychology withal. Environment
and Society as a traditional Major is offered at the University of California, Berkley and at the
University of Minnesota. To enhance the experience of the Individual Major, during the Junior and
Senior years at Emmanuel College, I aspire to attend Environmental Forum provided every spring by
Colleges of Fenway. As a capstone experience I foresee myself undergoing an internship in a locally
based Education Outreach Program2. On this matter, I would like to accentuate that driven by my
interest I am

What does Beatrice s language show about her attitudes towards different men in the two different scenes you have studied? 10th February 2012 Introduction Much ado nothing is a romantic Shakespeare play about two couples of lovers. The play is set in Messina, deep in the heart of Italy and is based in Elizabethan times. The lovers are namely; Claudio and Hero, Bennedick and Beatrice. Claudio is a noble Florentine count from Florence. Bennedick is a war hero from Padua. Both are honourable war heroes fighting for Don Pedro the prince of Aragon. Beatrice is the niece of Leonato the Governor of Messina. At the beginning of the play Don Pedro and his valiant fighters return from the wars to Messina. However beneath all this fancy language we can derive that Bennedick was painted all over Beatrice s thoughts and she cannot resist asking about his well being. When the messenger states he knows none of that name, Hero her cousin says My cousin means Signor Bennedick of Padua this clearly shows that not only is Bennedick and Beatrice s thoughts he is also a subject of conversation and discussion between Beatrice and Hero. The way Beatrice speaks seemingly spitefully about Bennedick shows us she is perhaps interested in Bennedick and trying not to arouse the suspicion of the messenger and her uncle. By adding sarcastic comments and insults where Bennedick name appears shows us she is trying hard not to bring out her real feelings for him, the name Signor Mountanto is one of the names Beatrice has devised to insult Bennedick however the fact that the name is so complex in meaning and the inside joke so well thought out shows us she has really thought about this insult and it has not an insult off the top of her head. Beatrice is more devious and careful about relationships than Claudio who seems rather desperate to get with Hero and throw himself headfirst into a relationship that he perhaps knows nothing about. This suggests perhaps she has more experience in love and relationships and has also experienced disappointment and is afraid of it. • 3. International Income Tax Question 1. The source method of tax collection generally involves the primary right of a country a business is using as its main location of trading to tax this business according to its income. This is a general international state practice, which is also anchored in double taxation agreements. The source system means that income is taxed in the country where the income originates, regardless of factors such as physical or legal residence of the person or entity receiving the income. The source system is based on the fact that the business or entity receiving the income is making use of the source country s resources. Additionally, such a system also implicates fair competition between taxpayers among various jurisdictions. Income from lotteries, gambling, personal injury awards, gifts, and capital gains are not characterized as source incomes in a country, which means that such earnings are not subjected to this type of income tax. Another interesting point is that source system countries have extended their taxation scope by considering certain types of income that do not have a true source as sourced within their jurisdictions, such as dividends. These are then also deemed taxable by the countries involved. The source based method differs from the residence method of taxation in that a country considers a person who has earned income within its borders as subject to taxes payable to the authority of that country. The residence system, on the other hand, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He went a private school for a short period of time before he started teaching himself and becoming homeschooled. Almost all of his renowned books were collaborations with other writers, primarily Auguste Maquet. Their works included The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo. These novels were initially broken down into serials in magazines instead of complete books. Because of all his successes with his novels, the 1840s were the apex of his finances, and he was able to build a luxurious estate. Although Dumas created some of the best known plays and novels in the world, he suffered from many setbacks which ultimately led to his death. He created a controversial, yet popular play in 1832 called The Tower of Nesle. The play depicted many of the vices of the preceding king and was disliked by the new king, Louis Philippe. As a result, the author was exiled from France for a short period of time. He suffered from bankruptcy from wasting too much money on his estate and giving lavish gifts to women. He escaped his creditors by fleeing to Brussels. After he returned to Paris, he worked tirelessly to pay his debts. He created two newspaper companies, which survived about three years each. Then, he had to retreat to first son s home in 1870 because of the Prussian occupation of Paris in the Franco Prussian War. He died two years later in poverty and declining spirits on December fifth at seventy years old (DISCovering Authors). Critical Analysis Although The Three Musketeers is regarded as of the ... In this context, they were Africans that were abducted from their homes and shipped to North America. Slaves were poorly treated and physically abused. Both men and women were treated like animals. In this graph there is a peak at 3248 cm 1 (C O) and a peak at 1589 cm 1 (O H) which confirms the presence of carboxylic acid. To confirm the presence of amides, a medium absorption near 3400 cm 1 should be observed which is the case in this graph. Absorptions in the region of 1450 to 1600 cm 1 often designate an aromatic ring and when consulting the C H region we can confirm its aromatic since the peak is to the left of the 3000 cm 1. • 13. Political Elites And Non Elites Among Nations Many consider political elites to be the upper echelon of society and of our generation. Specifically, political elites in many countries around the world, regardless of the type of government they possess, have the influence, wealth, clout, and savvy to determine the outcome of elections in politics as well as impact the lives of the general population, given their respective countries. Similar to the concept of Communism, the select few comprised of the elite group in certain countries make the majority of the decisions with no consequences or repercussions; regardless of how right or wrong that decision may be. The separation of elites and non elites among nations is extremely staggering mainly due to the fact that: the distribution of political power is skewed, leaders and elites are conscious of what they possess politically, they are coherent within the realm of politics (i.e. economic status, defense spending, campaign funding), conspire with one another when decision making, and they answer to no one higher than them because of their status. Two primary examples of countries with political elites present are China and Lebanon. Both countries, although they may not solely advocate such status, tie in political elites with their respective forms of government (Communism for China) and forms of religion (Confessionalism for Lebanon). Throughout the story we see how difficult it is for Mrs. Sen to assimilate to the lifestyle in America. Her days, usually consist of staying in an apartment while her husband teaches at a nearby university. Mrs. Sen s Indian lifestyle still seems very prominent, all her furniture is still wrapped in plastic, the shoes are all lined in a bookcase by the front door, she refuses to purchase fish from the supermarket and she uses an abnormal blade to do her cooking. • 22. The Stages Of Non Rem Sleep The stages of non REM sleep, stages 1 3, are defined by EEG activity. Slow wave sleep in stage 3 is the deepest stage of sleep. Alertness consists of desynchronized beta activity (13 30 Hz); relaxation and drowsiness consist of alpha activity (8 12 Hz); stage 1 sleep consists of alternating periods of alpha activity, irregular fast activity, and theta activity (3.5 7.5 Hz); the EEG of stage 2 sleep lacks alpha activity but contains sleep spindles (short periods of 12 14 Hz activity) and occasional K complexes; stage 3 sleep primarily consists of delta activity. About 90 minutes after the beginning of sleep, people enter REM sleep. Thereafter, cycles of REM and non REM sleep occur in periods of approximately 90 minutes. Muscle tone decreases throughout the stages, resulting in deepest relaxation and paralysis in REM sleep (Carlson Birkett, p. 268). The rate of cerebral blood flow during REM sleep is high in the extrastriate cortex but low in the striate cortex and the prefrontal cortex. This activity reflects a lack of visual in put in REM (little or no activation in the striate cortex), but the presence of active visual hallucinations during dreaming (activation in the extrastriate cortex). Lack of prefrontal cortex activity likely reflects the lack of organization and planning that occur in dreams. Regional cerebral blood flow during slow wave sleep is generally decreased throughout the brain compared to waking. However, some researchers have found localized increases ... The futuristic city of both Scott and Lang are distinct in their landscapes, geography, and social structure. These two films sought to envision a future where technology was the basis by which society functioned. Technology was the culture and the cities would crumble without it. Metropolis and Blade Runner uses the themes relationships amongst female sexuality and male vision, and technology. However, Gender roles and technology seems to be the most important part in both films. Blade Runner became a cult classic. The film may have survived long enough to benefit from a renewed taste for darker, more violent sci fi. It s appeal has less to do with a fascination for outer space (which does not feature beyond reference in a few lines of dialogue) than with a vision of earth and humankind in the near future (Roberts and Wallis Pg 157 8). Both films have a timeless quality to it, as they are representative of the future of our planet earth. I find it so interesting that even though these films were made in different times their ideas about the futuristic city and society are almost identical. The futuristic aspect of these ... In referencing this book of the Hebrew Bible, Hemingway resorts to aged scripture to unearth steadfast truths. His novel uses old world beliefs to provide a solution for modern day issues, asserting the undeniable value of tradition. The applicability of the Ecclesiastes passage to Hemingway s portrait of hopelessness in the post Great War generation demonstrates that a reconnection with the natural world will reverse the unnatural consequences of a meaningless war and permit the reestablishment of hope within the following generation. Hemingway depicts the expatriates disconnect from the natural world in order to portray this generation s improbable renewal. After participating in a war which went against the principles of nature in its needless destruction, the expatriates have lost comprehension of the inherently human will to desire and consequently accomplish. This cyclical course of completed events is lacking in the expatriates lives and is replaced by a linear repetition which conveys emptiness. Through detachment from traditional human passions, the expatriates misunderstand fundamental laws of nature. Passing a taxidermist in Paris, Bill suggests that Jake purchase a stuffed dog. He refers to the practice of taxidermy as a simple exchange of values. You give them money. They give you a stuffed dog (p. 78). Bill exalts a pattern formed by commerce and artificiality, which replaces the traditional cycle of death and rebirth. He continues to describe a future purchase of a horse cab stuffed for Christmas (p. 79). The traditional holiday of Christmas, defined by its generous and genuine gifts, is converted into a mocking showcase of falsely preserved nature. Hemingway concludes this passage with Bill s assertion, I m a nature writer, (p. 80) an ironic statement which illuminates a lack of knowledge for his field due to a misconception of the natural cycle. Compare And Contrast The Chesapeake And New England Colonies When comparing and contrasting the Chesapeake and New England colonies you find that there are many differences and a few similarities. These differences and similarities revolve around the colonies geography, economic characteristics, religious characteristics, and why they were founded. These differences developed in the colonies based off where they are, how they were ran, and how wealthy they were. The development of these colonies also affected the American Indians in a few different ways. Let start by comparing major difference of the geography between Chesapeake and New England colonies. New England colonies had cold weather and poor dry soil which made for a short growing season. This made it harder to grow food so most families just had a small farm for personal gain, there weren t plantations. The New England colonies also had natural harbors and a lot of the land was covered in forests. In contrast to the New England colonies the Chesapeake colonies has hot humid weather, with long growing seasons, and excellent soil that was great for plantation and along with rivers that flowed throughout the colonies. In fact, by 1918, nearly three million women were employed in the textile, food, and war industries. Many restrictions on women s participation in these industries were torn down during World War 1. Women slowly started gaining more social responsibilities. They started working as streetcar conductors and radio operators; they also worked in logging camps and steel mills. During the war, they not only had to support their households, but also the war effort. After the war, their labor was far from over. It was now more socially acceptable to continue working. In addition, many men died in the war and women had to work single handedly to support their family. The public view of war changed after World War 1. Before the war, the public had seen war as it was in the 1800s with large armies attacking each other in open fields in battles that rarely lasted for more than a day. However, new technology and tactics made warfare much more gruesome. One tactic became known as trench warfare. When the British released a realistic film about the Battle of the Somme, a battle fought by Britain and France against Germany, the public was shocked. Soldiers no longer participated in distinct battles; they could be attacked at any time of day. This constant state of fear had obvious psychological effects. The public became disillusioned about war due to the large body counts as well. Pacifism became more popular as a result. The growth of independence movements was another important effect of the war. In order to move towards a peaceful future, governments must acknowledge and respond to the wrongs and injustices of the past. While there is an agreement between people that the process of reconciliation must acknowledge the wrongs of the past and the victims, many scholars debate about how such acknowledgments are best communicated, so that they will be sufficiently credible and effective in improving future relations. In fact, many argue that memory is crucially important as a response to past injustices, especially when dealing with human rights violations. But what kind of redress can memorials provide, and how can they advance in transitional justice?
