● Born on 11 January, 1954 in Madhya Pradesh, India.
● Engineer by profession, social worker by passion.
● Founded Bachpan Bachao Andolan (Save Childhood Movement)
in 1980.
● Dedicated his life to rescuing children from exploitation.
● Awarded Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 for his fight against child
labour.
A Spark is Ignited
• Encounter with bonded labour at age 16 subjected to hazardous and exploitative
labour.
• Witnessing children forced into dangerous and degrading work.
• Deeply affected by their suffering, vowed to fight for their freedom.
• Marked the beginning of his lifelong mission against child labour.
Founding Bachpan Bachao Andolan
Andolan
● Founded Bachpan Bachao Andolan in 1980 to combat child
exploitation.
● Spearheaded efforts to rescue children from slavery, trafficking,
and exploitation.
● Rescued over 85,000 children, offering hope and freedom.
● Innovative methods: undercover operations, community
mobilization, legal advocacy.
Global Impact
● Led Global March Against Child Labour (1998):
80,000 km across 103 countries.
● Advocated for international laws against child
labor (ILO Convention 182).
