Executing applications in the clouds offer many advantages over the traditional way of running programs. Firstly, using cloud computing allows rapid service deployment and massive savings upfront because not having to invest in infrastructure. Secondly, cloud computing model allows computing power and storage to scale up with business growth. In addition to this, it’s also easy to dynamically adjust computing power up or down. As a customer, you end up paying for the actual usage of resources. The advantages of using the Azure cloud platform relate to the fact that Microsoft has tried to minimize the changes involved in migrating applications to the cloud. Effort required from developers already familiar with Microsoft’s technologies to utilize the Azure is minimal. In addition to this, upcoming releases of Azure are going to support applications written in languages such as Python and PHP. Another advantage in Microsoft’s solution is that the services provided can be used in a very flexible fashion. Not only are Azure services available to cloud applications, but also traditional on-premises applications are free to exploit them. What’s even better, Microsoft seems to be improving in terms of interoperability. Because all of the services are accessible via industry standard protocols, it is guaranteed exploiting them doesn’t force customers to use Microsoft’s operating systems on-premises. Although there are many advantages in cloud computing, there are also disadvantages that shouldn’t be ignored. The first and most obvious disadvantage is the fact that by running applications in the cloud you have to hand over your private data. Privacy and security concerns are direct consequences of this. Secondly, although cloud computing relieves customers from the burden of infrastructure management, it also takes away the possibility to be in total control of that infrastructure. Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Magazine analysis
1. I took inspiration from a boxing/MMA magazine and created my
style of magazine in a similar way. I took my own images of a fighter
and enlarged him so he fits the entire page of my front cover to
show he is an important part of the magazine. The masthead is also
in a large font which stand out but it behind the fighter, this also
keeps the concentration on the fighter. The two end letters in
“Fight” and a small part of the ‘N’ is covered up but is still readable.
The colour of the text blends and fits in with the rest of the
magazines and the capitalization of the title and the other slogans
make it bold and stand out so more people will take notice. Nothing
is blurred out of the fighter or the magazine because this shows the
whole cover is important. This clearly shows the magazine is about
fighting as the fighters clothing and the title of the magazine. Next
to the fighter shows that he is the fighter of the year and the new
face of boxing. This also links to the fighter covering the entire
cover and the concentration will stay on the fighter. There are other
puffs on the cover which show what is inside the magazine such as
the 40 best fighters and how to prevent injuries. The colour of the
magazine is Grey/white and orange, the orange links in with the
colour of the fighters gloves and the grey and white help the fighter
stand out more.

3. To create my double page spread I also took inspiration of real life magazines. I took one half of the page and
enlarged a photo of a boxer and made him cover the page, I always inserted a little section that states the statistics
of the fighter e.g. name, age and height. This tells the audience who the fighter is and a little bit about his boxing
stats. The masthead of the double page is in large black bold text which stands out and is on front of any image, this
shows the audience what the double page spread is going to be about. The next page shows text and it tells you
about why the boxer is in the news, one part of the text tells us that he is created a new gym, on of the biggest in
the UK and a small image on the bottom right shows one part of the gym where the MMA will take place. There will
be other rooms like this that will be used for other martial arts such as a boxing room with rings and equipment to
spar.
The photo on the bottom left showing a hand using a boxing sparring glove, this is Mullenders personalized glove
that you can purchase and use for your own fights or training sessions, all the money that will be raised will also be
going towards the gym that Mullender wants to open. You will be able to see further information about how to
purchase his apparel and information about the gym throughout the magazine.
The photo of the certificate next to the gloves shows what award Mullender has won and what the rewards is to
other people, there are similar rewards and certificates like this for other martial arts which show people what they
can win. This award is a very special award and can only be rewarded to a handful amount of people. This certificate
is given to someone who is dedicated to boxing, other martial arts and to someone who has made a huge impact on
the sport. He has gained many awards over the years such as World Heavy Weight, Fighter of the Year, having streets
and halls named after him, being put of the Hall of Fame and many other rewards. This shows he is a very good role
model to look up and is having an impact to many peoples lives. The gym is also a good way to help others as he is
giving people a chance to train and have the chance to be a boxer one day.
