Malcolm James McCormick, known professionally as Mac Miller, was born in 1992 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to parents of mixed Christian and Jewish faith. He became interested in hip hop at age 15 and became a self-taught musician, learning multiple instruments. Miller began his rap career at 14 under the names EZ Mac and Mac Miller, releasing several mixtapes. He was influenced by artists like Big L, Lauryn Hill, and A Tribe Called Quest. Miller later struggled with addiction to codeine and promethazine but was able to quit in 2012.
