2.7 hectares in the hills of the Marche
Region, 7 km away from the stunning

5. Airone Country House is a farm-house located in the
Marche Region, a building recovered from the past. It
consists of 3 rooms each with bathroom, a small
independent apartment with bathroom and kitchen area
also suitable for the disabled, a fully-equipped restaurant
and kitchen and outdoor spaces with a swimming pool, grill,
lawns and play area. Its rooms are designed in an
environmentally sustainable way, according to the
principles of feng shui. It offers an organic restaurant and a
pool with hot tub.
The Airone Country House is recommended for
commitment to environmental protection. It has gained the
EU Ecolabel and is member of the Ecoworldhotel label.

environmentally-friendly hotels and bed and
breakfasts in Italy to adopt a unique and
innovative philosophy in a new project aimed at
safeguarding the environment.
7. Case Study No. 3: Vigilius Mountain Resort, Italy
Vigilius Mountain Resort is a hotel located in South Tyrol, designed by architect Matteo
Thun. Its structure is interwoven with nature and it was awarded the World’s Most
Sustainable Hotel award. The hotel was built with natural material such as wood, stone,
clay and glass. In addition, guests can reach the hotel only via cable car.
The hotel was awarded with the EarthCheck Silver Certificate and is the first having
obtained the “Climate House, category A” Certificate in Italy.
The heating system is based on renewable energy sources, thanks to chipboard
combustion, coming from farmers in the surrounding woods. The building employs
technology to help monitor its parameters and use a heating system employing
biomass.

9. Case Study No 4: Jetwing Vil Uyana, Sri Lanka
The building is immersed within nature and takes advantage of the
surrounding environment characteristics . In fact, it is built with interwoven
soft rushes, straw, natural and recycled materials. Big open spaces in the hall
and restaurant employ and use natural light at is maximum, reducing the use
of artificial lights.
In addition, the surrounding natural environment characterized by water
sources and coverings with natural fibres and clay favour the cooling of the
space, without having to employ air conditioning systems.
Moreover, wastewater is further retrieved through specific processes and
employed in irrigation systems.
