PROCEDURES IN
CLEANING, SHARPENING,
AND OILING OF FARM
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

 Cleaning tools and equipment is important thing to
prevent danger in the workplace.
 Basic steps or procedures should be the utmost
concern of this lesson. The goal is to keep the
tools and equipment organized and well- managed.
 Maintaining farm tools makes them last longer,
efficient and reduces the risk of injury.

1. Rinse off mud and soil with a garden hose.
2. Scrub away stubborn soil and use paint
thinner to remove sap and pitch.
3. Wipe tools dry with a rag or towel.
4. Hang tools well.
5. Wipe and spray with oil and put tools in a
pail to keep them clean and sharp.

Equipment
Objectives:
1. Store tools and equipment in designated areas in
line with farm
procedures, and
2. Choose the correct and proper storage of tools and
equipment.
Read the story below and answer the following questions.
The Farmer and His Tools
One day, Randy was happily working on his farm. Then
suddenly, his friend Ford came and invited him to a
party. Because of his excitement, he hurriedly left with
Ford leaving his tools on the field. At night, a heavy
rain was pouring and the field was flooded. In the
morning when Randy returned to his farm, he was
shocked of what happened to his farm tools.
1. What was the story all about?
2. What do you think happened to Randy’s farm tools?
3. Why did it happen?
4. If you are to advice Randy, what will you say?
Importance of Proper Storage of Tools and Equipment
 For safety and health as well as good
business.
 Improves appearance of working areas.
 Reduces overall tool cost through
maintenance.
 Ensures that tools are in good repair
at hand.
 Teaches workers principles of tool
accountability
Points to Follow in Storing Tools and Equipment
1. Have a designated place for each kind of tools.
2. Storage cabinet should be labeled and place it
correctly.
3. Store tools near the point of use.
4. Before storing, wash and dry tools properly.
5. Store knives properly with sharp edge down when
not in use
 6. Frequently used items should be put in accessible
locations.
 7. Electrical cords should be gathered and secured to
prevent snagging.
 8. To avoid moisture collection, cutting board should
be stored vertically.
 9.Metal equipment can be stacked on one another
after drying
 10.Areas for storing equipment should be clean, dry
and not over crowded,
