The document is a shot-by-shot description of a music video. It follows a boy (Boy1) as he wakes up remembering a girl (Girl1). He sees Girl1 in a cafe with another boy (Boy2). Later, Boy1 sees Girl1 with yet another boy (Boy3), realizing she has been cheating on him. Boy1 runs away distressed. Another girl (Girl2) comforts Boy1. Boy1 and Girl2 connect and she helps mend his broken heart as they share a kiss, while Girl1 watches from a distance.
Mise en scene:
Location: School/ House and the jungle. – jungle is a way of escape can emphasise the fact that the boy is grown up and he is independent.
Lighting: The lighting in the school is high key in order to show the destruction more clearly. The jungle the lighting is low key.
Props: guns are symbolic - they ‘fire’ similarly the society fire ‘words’ which are hurtful . These words will affect a child’s psychological state.
Costume: The boy wears casual clothes – jeans./ coat and a hat – the weather seems windy and cold so the boy is dressed appropriate to the weather.
1. 0-6 seconds: Slow Me Down, Change My Ways Tonight or is it all too late – Mid shot of boy1 and girl1 facing one another playing together. Camera pauses for camera image of boy1 and girl1 staring into each other’s eyes whilst holding hands. Boy1 lays in bed with image of the boy and girl holding hands in the beginning. Zooming out from camera pause.<br />6-34 seconds: How could you keep those lying eyes, babe when you couldn’t hide away, hide away oh I’m wide awake, wide awake oh I’m trying to say, trying to say all the words that are in my mind today - Slow cutting rhythm of close up and mid shots as boy1 wakes up and begins to get ready to leave house. Shots of the boy1 stepping out of bed, stepping into bathroom, cut to leaving the bathroom in dressing gown, close of picking up mobile, close up shot at he puts his hand on door knob to leave house.<br />34-56 seconds: Oh won’t you wait for a minute cause my heart isn’t in it today - Cutting rhythm begins to speed up, number of shots of boy1 walking along the pavement. Close up of footwear as he leaves door. Mid Tracking shot of boy1 walking down street, cut to long shot facing boy1 as he walks towards the camera, cut to close up of face and similar long shot as he walks towards a café. <br />56-1 min: Long shot face café. Boy1 stands towards the right of the shot and looks into the café. Girl1 and boy2 are seen facing one another through the window of the café. <br />1-1.05: Well I’ve tried and I’ve tried but there’s nothing left for you to say to me - Close up shot of girl1 in café, Girl1 turns head to spot the boy1 standing outside café.<br />1.05-1.09: I’ve been falling at your feet now I’m crawling – Close up shot of girl1 hand as she moves hand onto the other boy2 she faces opposite in the café.<br />1.09-1.17: Can’t you see you’ve been holding me back for too long now – Cut back to long shot of boy1 standing outside the café looking into the café at the girl1. As this shot is taking the girl1 in the café will fade out and disappear from the shot. Boy1 outside café walks across front of café.<br />1.17-1.27: Whoa I’ve tried for you, Whoa never good enough but nothings for you – Cut to tracking mid shot of boy1 as he walks towards the camera and performs the song. In the background the girl1 is slapping, hitting, pulling and generally pulling him back as he keeps walking towards the camera. Performance. <br />1.40-1.55: Number of cutting shots as boy1 walks along pavement. Cutting shots begin to slow as the as a number different shot such as close ups, mid shots, long shots are taken as the boy1 walks along pavements.<br />1.55-2.05: Oh wont you wait for a minute cause my heart isn’t in it today, well I’ve tried and I’ve tried but there’s nothing left for you, to say to me - Cut’s back to performing shot of boy1 as he walks towards tracking camera performing the song. As the boy1 is performing the girl1 follows and keeps hitting and tugging him back as he ignores her.<br />2.05-2.18: I’ve been falling at your feet now I’m crawling, can’t you see you’ve been holding me back for too long now - P.O.V shot as boy1 walks along high street. Arcing camera shots to create the impression of the boy1 eye view as he looks at oncoming girls walking past.<br />2.18-2.22: Close up of the boy1 face as he shows a confused facial expression.<br />2.22-2.25: Whoa I tried for you - Reaction shot as the camera cuts back to the girl1 and another boy3 together.<br />2.25-2.30: Whoa nothings good enough but nothings for you - Shocked facial reaction of male as he is shocked to see the girl with a different boy3 again and give the boy1 the feeling that he maybe being followed by the girl1.<br />2.30-2.45: Oh think your better than oh you think you’re better than me, When you cheat and lie on, No I never did oh you know I never could see, When you cheat and lie on - Number of shots as male runs away from seen with a quick cutting rhythm. Random shots are added from close ups of the boy1 facial expression, long shots of the male running away from scene and a cut back to the tracking mid shot of the boy1 performing. Some shots as boy1 runs away, the audience is also able to see the girl1 in the background, which gives a more strange effect of the girl1 following boy1.<br />2.45-2.48: Think your better than oh you think you’re better than me – Close up shot from above boy1 head as he crouches over catching his breathe. A hand appears to tap on the boy1 shoulder.<br />2.48-2.52: When you cheat and lie on, No I never did - Close up of boy1 face as we see the boy1 turn his head to see who had tapped him on the shoulder.<br />2.52-3.06: oh you know I never could see, when you cheat and lie on me - Exchanging close ups of boy1 and girl2 face, as they appear to be in deep conversation and seem to get on with each other. <br />3.06-3.17: Now my heart beats clear - The boy and girl start to walk off with each other as mid tracking shots are taken of the pair and close ups are also taken so that we still see the boy1 and girl2 in conversation as the boy1 and girl2 create affectionate facial expressions. <br />3.17-3.25: when you cheat and lie on me - Cut to mid shot of male and girl2 walking towards camera and then turn and face one another. In background of the two the girl1 stands in the distance in between the two characters. <br />3.25-3.30: When you cheat and lie on - When you cheat and lie on – cut to close up of boy1 as he turns his face from the new girl opposite to look into the direction of cheating girl. Slow motion.<br />3.30-3.41: Cut back to mid shot of girl2 and boy1 opposite each other as he turns his head back to girl2 as they then get close together. Girl1 in the background disappears and does not feature in the shot. Slow motion of the boy and girl2 as they move together closer for the kiss.
