- #33 Talking Points: First, you should expect a really awesome landing page. You can come in, enter your email id and get started with a trial or log into Project Online. You can also download the Project desktop client very easily while you are there.

You can also leverage different custom templates that will be presented to you. You can also create and add new templates for your teams to use A wizard like experience will help you create a new project from within the browser itself.
- #35 Talking Points Project Online will feature a full-screen edit experience with a very Excel-like interface. The “Tell me” feature will help users discover and use key features and get work done faster. Also, with a single click, anyone can open a project plan in Project desktop client.

Scenario here is: Project Managers managing projects can continue to manage their projects in Project Online as well as Project Pro for Office 365. But, can choose to pick a task or two and assign them to a software development team lead who works with his team in TFS or VSO. Team lead can then break that task down to sub-tasks in VSO or TFS, and assign them to developers on his team. As the team works on their tasks and provide status updates, the task summary flows back to the Project manager in a very seamless fashion, keeping the two worlds in sync at all times. Project manager, simply right clicks on a task and opts to manage a task in Visual Studio Online.
- #47 Talking Points Here, you see the development team managing the task and associated sub-tasks in Visual Studio Online.
- #48 Talking Points The template will guide you through a wizard like experience to initiate, manage and govern Agile projects.
- #49 Talking Points You can mange your Agile projects’ backlog visually and keep track of metrics such as Story points, risk levels etc.

In very simple terms, a Program is a group of Projects and a Portfolio is a grouping of Projects and Programs. That said, a Program can exist independent of a Portfolio and a project can exist independent of a Program or portfolio. In other words, our design is intended to support the needs of everyone – no matter how they define their Programs or Portfolios.

We recently acquired this Office 365 Add-In from a partner called Projectum.
- #62 Talking Points Also, we will support multi currency scenarios. This is based on strong feedback from many multi-national customers of ours. Let’s say you have a program with multiple projects spread across countries and each being managed in the local currency of that country. With this investment, you can manage these projects in local currency and still roll them all up into a single currency at a program or portfolio level.
- #63 Talking Points Next, let us talk about Out of the Box reports for Project Online. Today we offer lots of reports for Project managers inside Project desktop. There was a clear need for Out of the Box reports for Programs and Portfolios in Project Online too. To get a head start and accelerate our time to market, we acquired a reporting solution that one of our partners – Sensei, had built. We will share more integration plans in months to come.
- #64 Talking Points Let me show you some of the examples of these Portfolio Dashboard reports. These reports will let you filter by different fields to get a view of what is happening across the portfolio.
- #65 Talking Points You can analyze metrics across the portfolio. Here, we are showing top projects with work in the past. Then there are Pie charts with slipping tasks, cost over-runs, work over-runs and missed deadlines. Important thing to note here is that they are based on industry best practices and these are the reports for decision makers who need portfolio level insights.
- #66 Talking Points For example, you can see top projects by finish and cost variance or by work variance. You can also drill down easily to discover key trends and issues.
- #67 Talking Points Also, we will deliver all these reports via an iPad app Lots of senior executives want to view these reports on mobile devices like iPad and we are excited to provide that experience. You can expect awesome drill down and filtering experience in the iPad app as well.
- #68 Talking Points: In addition to providing a holistic set of reports for portfolio management out of the box, we also want to meet the custom reporting needs of our customers in the long term. This is where Power BI comes to play. Power BI is soon becoming the tool of choice for reporting needs of our cloud customers and Project Online will be no different. We will provide a content pack for Project online in Power BI which will not only provide a very strong reporting infrastructure but will also deliver a rich set of Out of the Box reports combined with natural language query capabilities. Power BI is already also available via native apps on all 3 mobile platforms. All said and done - there will be no Project Portfolio Management solution in the market that will provide such an extensive set of reports that we will soon be providing in Project Online
- #70 Talking Points And, No - we are not done yet. We have even more native apps coming. I just talked about native apps for executives to look at portfolios reports. We will also provide a companion iPad app for Project managers. Imagine we have a project manager who created a project plan in Project Pro for Office 365, stored it in Project Online environment. With this app, they can stay informed about the project status, on the go.
- #71 Talking Points Here is the companion iPad app for Project managers. As you can see, there are sections for each of the metrics and details they care about.
- #72 Talking Points Project managers can further drill down into each area for more actionable insights.
- #73 Talking Points We also are going to provide rich mobile apps experience for team members to help them manage their tasks, provide status updates and at the same time enter their timesheets. Talking of timesheets, our customers tell us that they wanted to make it very easy for team members to enter timesheets, and per our research a simple way to enable that would be to support the mobility element. And, we will be delivering this app for all the 3 mobile platforms.
- #74 Talking Points The last investment area I want to talk about is around integration with Planner and Wunderlist.
- #75 Talking Points Project Online will provide out of the box integration with Office 365 Planner. First, we expect to have millions of users, mainly from business teams who will use Planner to manage simple initiatives. Let’s say you are working on an engineering construction project and you want to purchase some material. To do so, today, you create a task and assign it your procurement counterpart. You email and notify them. On their end, the procurement will manage the whole vendor selection work somewhere outside the PPM platform. You as a Project manager have no real time visibility into this and you rely on regular emails back and forth to be on top of the situation. No more! Going forward, I can assign a task to my procurement counterparts who are more comfortable in Planner. Immediately, they will see a plan created in Planner. The procurement team can then break it down into sub tasks and manage in Planner. What is awesome is – the status rolls back to Project manager in Project Online automatically and the 2 teams are always in sync! This is very similar to what we are doing with Visual Studio Online integration. While Visual Studio Online is for Developer audience, Planner integration is for business audience.
- #76 Talking Points Shows the Planner view where the business teams is managing the task assigned from the PPM project.
- #78 Talking Points Finally, we have Wunderlist integration. Wunderlist has a base of 13mil users across a variety of mobile platforms. We will integrate Wunderlist with both Project Online and Planner. This means that if you are a Wunderlist user, you will see all your tasks – From Planner, Project Online as well as your personal tasks, all in one single place.
