Viet Nam's nationally determined contribution outlines goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transition to a low-carbon economy. Greenhouse gas emissions have increased from 103.8 MtCO2e in 1994 to 283.9 MtCO2e in 2014, with energy and agriculture as the largest contributing sectors. Under a business-as-usual scenario, emissions are projected to reach 888.8 MtCO2e by 2030. Nationally, Vietnam commits to an unconditional 9% reduction below the business-as-usual scenario by 2030 and a conditional 16% reduction with international support. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. - Not only will these emissions reductions confer environmental benefits through GHG abatement, but will also yield huge economic savings. Preventing the release of 9.1 GtCO2e is equivalent to reducing emissions from oil combustion by 21.6 million barrels of oil, which is enough oil to fill 106 million tanker trucks. The monetary savings from that level of energy savings is astonishing. At November 2012 oil prices, saving that much oil would save US$1.9 trillion per year—that's equivalent to the annual economic output of Russia.
