ISIS lost several frontier positions in late 2014 in Iraq and Syria to anti-ISIS forces, including cities in eastern Iraq and historic support positions in Baghdad. However, ISIS still maintains control of key urban areas like Mosul and Raqqa. While territorial losses have been substantial, they have not compromised ISIS's priorities. ISIS has also expanded its presence in some areas of Syria, like Hasaka province, and has increased attacks against Kurdish forces. ISIS continues its stated mission to remain in control of current territories and expand its control to new areas.
