The document discusses cohabitation (living together before marriage) in Vietnam. It notes that about one-third of young people in Ho Chi Minh City live together before marriage according to a 2013 survey. While cohabitation is not new, it has become more popular in modern times. However, the author does not fully encourage cohabitation in Vietnam due to traditional cultural views. There are many potential reasons people cohabit, such as being far from family, influence of Western culture, or trying to save money. However, cohabitation also brings difficulties like unwanted pregnancies and lack of responsibility. It may work if both partners are mature, but often leads to boredom and breakups which can harm especially the girl.
An Introduction to Social Issues and Applied Learningakaster11
This document introduces social issues and applied learning. It defines a social problem as a social condition that some segment of society views as harmful and in need of remedy. Social problems have both objective and subjective elements. Applied learning focuses on preparing students for the real world by applying classroom skills to hands-on experiences like service learning and internships. This helps students develop global awareness and workplace skills while addressing social issues in their community.

Social hosts can be held legally responsible for providing alcohol to minors or adults who then cause harm. One of the earliest cases was in 1889 where a man died after being given alcohol from a social host. Situations where social hosts could be liable include providing alcohol to minors or adults, leaving minors with alcohol, or being present while minors drink. In Texas, penalties for providing alcohol to minors include fines up to $4,000 and jail time. Social media posts about drinking can also cause teachers to lose their jobs, so it is best to avoid alcohol-related posts online.

A new approach to younger peoples stroke servicesPhil COLLIS
The document discusses the need for improved stroke services for younger people. Younger stroke patients have different needs than older patients but current services are focused on older individuals. The document outlines a review of 35 younger stroke patients which found needs around social support, returning to work, exercise access, communication difficulties, and a single point of contact. It proposes a younger stroke support unit that would provide targeted case-by-case support to help address the specific needs of younger stroke survivors.

This document compares the differences between current and earlier generations. It argues that earlier generations had a stronger work ethic, were more independent and resourceful, and faced harder consequences. In contrast, it says current generations feel more entitled, want more rewards without effort, rely on online connections over in-person interactions, and advocate through social media rather than real-world protests. The conclusion calls for current generations to appreciate what earlier generations have provided and contributed to society.

The document provides guidance for community managers on preparing for and responding to mental health issues online. It defines mental health and discusses its prevalence in Australia. It then outlines steps community managers can take to reduce stigma, encourage help-seeking behavior, and foster community connectivity. It also provides tips for responding to users in distress, developing referral resources, supporting staff, and prioritizing self-care.
This document provides guidance for grant-making organizations to support projects that address mental health stigma and discrimination through social contact. It discusses the impact of stigma, how social contact works to reduce prejudice by facilitating conversations between those with and without lived experience, and how to evaluate social contact projects. The top things funders should look for in applications are that the project will reach the public, focus on one-to-one conversations, be led by those with lived experience, provide robust volunteer training and support, and be community-led. Case studies and resources are also provided.

The survey results show that most members prefer getting church information electronically through email newsletters and the website rather than print newsletters. Members are particularly interested in receiving group information and being able to offer support through online methods. While current members use computers and the internet regularly, workshops could help increase technological literacy for all generations. The data reveals opportunities to better engage people through targeted communications and multiple information channels.
Libraries and the Campaign to End LonelinessCILIPScotland
1) Loneliness is a subjective feeling of lack of social connections, while social isolation is an objective measure of number of social interactions. An estimated 4 million older people in the UK experience chronic loneliness.
2) Loneliness has significant health impacts, increasing the risk of conditions like high blood pressure, stroke, and cognitive decline. Its impact on mortality is equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day for those who live alone and lack social connections.
3) Effective interventions for loneliness include group-based activities targeted at specific groups, with a shared interest or educational focus, and that involve older people in running the groups. Libraries can help combat loneliness by hosting such groups and events.
1) The article discusses the importance of social relationships and recovery communities in supporting long-term recovery from substance abuse. It argues that social isolation can lead to relapse or premature death.
2) Over the years, treatment has shifted from just reducing waiting times and getting people into treatment to also focusing on retaining people in treatment long-term and facilitating their transition to social recovery networks and communities after treatment.
3) Public health research demonstrates that strong social relationships are critical for both quality of life and survival. Recovery communities can help substance abusers develop these relationships and support systems that are essential for sustained recovery.

Tobacco and alcohol use are a personal choice, but they have a foundation in the societal aspect as well. Social norms are what contribute to every persons eventual choices and behavior based on what others have set out for a pattern of acceptability in society. Therefore, if we are to change these habits, we must first look at how our society plays a roll and re-create the narrative for the future. The Institute of Medicine (US) Committee on Preventing Nicotine Addiction in Children and Youths states that standards set by society define the boundaries of behavior. (Institute of Medicine (US) Committee on Preventing Nicotine Addiction in Children and Youths, 1994). If a person at a young age is seeing alcohol consumption and/or smoking as something that is accepted by friends and family, or movies are portraying actors as heroes that smoke it's certainly noticed and accepted. Just encouraging smoking cessation or helping to stop others from drinking is only part of the solution. There is an underlying pervasiveness to these addictions that needs to be uprooted. It is not just the addiction itself that is a problem because a lot of the time one will replace another. The cultural acceptance and advocacy for such behavior needs to be stopped. The public funding of these issues is largely where the problem is based. Lobbying and other special interests that want to control and manipulate individual behaviors are at the center of this issue. If you are looking at alcohol consumption for example, it is glorified in the media and set forth in mass-marketing droves. Children and adults alike view it as something used to celebrate and have fun. Smoking and alcohol consumption is something that goes hand in hand when some people are socializing. Shiffmans study reveals that 19% of cigarettes were smoked when drinking alcohol and 29% when participants were socializing. (Schiffman, 2009). In order to lessen the effects of alcohol consumption and smoking in our society, we must first stop allowing big tobacco companies and alcohol producers to target our children and people from poorer socioeconomic backgrounds. Even though there has been campaigns to stop children and others from smoking or drinking, it has not been enough. We must all take part in these responsibilities so that we can create a healthier more productive society for each other.

When it comes to smoking and excessive drinking, the effects can be seen all throughout society, so shouldn't society play a part in helping end these horrible addictions. I will agree in saying that the end result of quitting is the individual and only the individuals responsibility. Society cannot force a person to quit, but it can help lead the individual to that decision.
Several communities, in accordance to state laws, have now banned smoking in all public places including bars and restaurants. In the article

Smoking Cessation: How to get 20 to 25 year old Canadians to consider quitting.Sonic Boom
This report analyzes smoking habits of Canadians aged 20-25 to identify beliefs that guide smoking behavior and triggers to quit. Three archetypes were identified - Activists see smoking as rebellious, Socialites see it as social and relationship-building, and New Blue Collars see it as stress-relieving. To get them to quit, messages must address the meanings and illusions they associate with smoking and focus on positive outcomes of not smoking.
Local communities have been replaced by individual personal networks which brands can engage with. People have separate networks that form their personal communities, such as family, coworkers, hobby groups. Brands can facilitate people's needs for security, knowledge, acceptance by providing forums for discussion. To be effective, brands must understand how people's identities and interests vary based on which networks they are engaging with.
This document outlines a vision for expanding dementia-friendly initiatives in the United States and globally. It discusses the need for greater awareness and education about younger-onset Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. The document proposes a multi-media public awareness campaign featuring younger individuals to challenge misconceptions that only older adults are affected. It also stresses the importance of using the inclusive term "dementia" rather than just "Alzheimer's." The vision includes making communities, hospitals, businesses and other organizations more dementia-friendly through universal symbols, technology, staff training and policy changes. Building broad coalitions is seen as key to implementing these initiatives on a large scale.

Sectional dentures for microstomia patients.pptxSatvikaPrasad
Microstomia, characterized by an abnormally small oral aperture, presents significant challenges in prosthodontic treatment, including limited access for examination, difficulties in impression making, and challenges with prosthesis insertion and removal. To manage these issues, customized impression techniques using sectional trays and elastomeric materials are employed. Prostheses may be designed in segments or with flexible materials to facilitate handling. Minimally invasive procedures and the use of digital technologies can enhance patient comfort. Education and training for patients on prosthesis care and maintenance are crucial for compliance. Regular follow-up and a multidisciplinary approach, involving collaboration with other specialists, ensure comprehensive care and improved quality of life for microstomia patients.

Certain chemicals, such as phthalates and parabens, can disrupt the body's hormones and have significant effects on health. According to data, hormone-related health issues such as uterine fibroids, infertility, early puberty and more aggressive forms of breast and endometrial cancers disproportionately affect Black women. Our guest speaker, Jasmine A. McDonald, PhD, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Columbia University in New York City, discusses the scientific reasons why Black women should pay attention to specific chemicals in their personal care products, like hair care, and ways to minimize their exposure.
End-tidal carbon dioxide (ETCO2) is the level of carbon dioxide that is released at the end of an exhaled breath. ETCO2 levels reflect the adequacy with which carbon dioxide (CO2) is carried in the blood back to the lungs and exhaled.
Non-invasive methods for ETCO2 measurement include capnometry and capnography. Capnometry provides a numerical value for ETCO2. In contrast, capnography delivers a more comprehensive measurement that is displayed in both graphical (waveform) and numerical form.

68% of adults say they feel lonely either often, always or sometimes
This is most acute among 18 to 34-year-olds, with 83% of this
age group experiencing loneliness
More than a third (38%) of respondents now have less interaction
with people they know than they did five years ago
16% only interact socially with others once a week or less
10. What challenges do we need your ideas to help overcome?
Help create new
“physical”
social networks
Help people to feel
at home in new
accommodation
settings.
Help people to deal positively with feelings of loss & separation
11. What are
the “Trig”
points we
need to
create and
connect?
Identify
people at
risk of
becoming
lonely.
Help sign post
a varied range
of activities of
interest to a
mix of people.
Create ways
of connecting
people who
are lonely with
each other
and with
people who
want to help
12. Some previous ideas to consider:
Develop good
neighbour campaigns
such as “Stair-ember”
and “Bungalow-oney”
– that encourage
people to engage with
neighbours they do not
know
Link with care
housing providers
to allow non-
residents to drop
in and take part in
group activities
Signposting local activities on bus stops /
lamp posts.
Educating young people to enable them
to avoid becoming lonely in the future
Mapping out activities
that people can engage
in.
