Editor's Notes

  • #3 Let’s think about the disruption we’re seeing in the banking sector. We have small companies or branch-less banks that are taking on the traditional banks and this is driving a change in that industry. There’s adoption of the DevOps working practises we see that allow these organisations to respond more quickly and in the end remain competitive. So why do we care about speed. There are lots of technical reasons, but what’s the business driver behind being able to do things quickly? I think it comes down to this- the ability to ship an idea. And that idea may be a new product feature, or it may be a system change that makes a server more secure. As organisations we understand that we need to focus on our products and therefore our users. These users don’t stand sill, their needs change, our needs change and so to remain competitive and keep satisfied users we need to be able to change.
  • #6 If we think about the history of Chef, it’s always been about Open Source, and this is really important because the technology needs to be adopted! Whether it’s inside your business or our really strong community. Closed software is a tough sell. Open Source foundation Chef (infra) - focused on infrastructure automation. Enforce business state on an ongoing basis. Inspec (compliance) - define policy as code to verify system state is compliant. Habitat (app) - ensure apps you have behave the same across the lifecycle (build, deploy and manage). Chef Automate helps connect the dots between those toolsets.  It plugs in on top of those open-source tools to provide workflow, compliance and visibility.  Chef Automate helps scale organization-wide adoption of automation across teams with a common continuous delivery workflow, ensures continuous compliance that happens early and throughout the development process, and provide visibility on top of it all.  Use our open-source automation tooling to get started.  Use Chef Automate to level-up: gain repeatability, security, and governance across your entire organization. That’s what we’re going to look at today.
