Elections in India are used to select representatives for the Lok Sabha, state legislative assemblies, Rajya Sabha, and local councils. They take place to give qualified voters the opportunity to elect candidates of their choice through a systematic process. The 2019 Indian general election saw many political parties participate across seven phases of polling from April 11 to May 19. In the end, the National Democratic Alliance won 354 out of 542 seats, with the Bharatiya Janata Party alone winning 303, allowing it and its allies to form the new government.
