2. LOCATION – WHERE AND WHY?
• For a horror film, generally they are filmed in a dark forest or an abandoned house somewhere.
I wanted to keep this general stereotype up, as my narrative is about an affair which breaks up
a household, I am going to use a house primarily because it would fit better with my narrative
rather than an abandoned forest.
• As my film is a psychological thriller I wanted to keep the theme of darkness and mystery,
therefore when I am filming in my location, I want to make sure rooms are dark and light, I
have the correct iconography and the mise-en-scene is correct. This includes; knives,
lighting, setting etc.

4. PROPS – RESEARCH
• Common props used in horror films are usually weapons, including knives, hammers,
screwdrivers or axes. To keep up the general connotations of props in horror films I will try to
include any weapons that I feel is needed, it may not be a high amount but I will try.
• Lighting is key when it comes to a horror film, often its dark and gloomy in the shots but you’ll
often see a candle or a flickering light in the background, which I will try and incorporate into
my final outcome.
• Even though costume is another part of mise-en-scene and isn’t associated with props
massively, I still think its important that the costume helps denote the narrative. Including
dark, ripped, damaged or a large amount of clothes on a particular actor/actress.
