The document discusses representations in coursework, both reinforcing and subverting stereotypes. For the main tasks of a poster and magazine, the creator aimed to represent both genders equally. Traditional gender roles were reinforced, such as women being dressed up and men in suits. However, in the trailer some stereotypes were subverted, including depicting the female protagonist in black to subvert expectations of how women are usually dressed, and showing her as aggressive and independent rather than passive. The layout connects the magazine and poster with shared elements like an actor and black and white theme to imply they relate to the same trailer.

2. REPRESENTATIONS – REINFORCING
When it came to representation throughout both my ancillary task and my
main task, I wanted to keep both genders included. As I created a poster with
a male model, I wanted to complete my magazine with a female model. I
stuck with the general representation of men and women in both, all my
female actors or models had their hair and makeup done, my male actor and
model was denoted in a suit in both denoting connotations of importance and
dominance.
Associating representation with sexuality, during my trailer I kept the
’traditional’ man and women relationship stereotype as I believed it would
have a larger audience to relate to, compared to doing a homosexual couple.
Additionally, regarding to serotypes, I included a different ethnic male in both
pieces of coursework to denote diversity within my work. I also undertook this
as it has been proven that females find ethnic minority men more attractive
compared to others, therefore I included this for my female viewership's
benefit.

3. REPRESENTATION - SUBVERTING
When it came to representations, even though I did reinforce most of them, I
want to insure that I was still subverting some stereotypes so that there is a
balance between the two.
This slide is only about the trailer, as I included all reinforced stereotypes in
both the magazine and poster.
Anyway, during the trailer I changed my first actresses outfit to something which
completely contradicted her first outfit. I presented her in all black to denote
connotations of danger and unawareness. This helped subvert the general
stereotype of women always being dressed up and well presented, also
contradicts Laura Mulveys idea of the ’Male Gaze’. Additionally, in the second
image on the left, the first actress is denoted storming away from her marriage,
this was to show independence and dominance, connotations which aren’t
usually associated with women.
Finally, in the top left hand corner, the image of my first actress pressing a
sharp knife against her neck denoted connotations of danger and aggression
however usually women are denoted as passive and quiet.

4. LAYOUT
As the name of trailer is ‘Sorry’ I
thought it would be conventional
to include this is both my
magazine and poster, therefore
my audience would know
they’re related.
I wanted to include at least one
actor/actress in both. I decided to use the
male actor on both as he is the main
character in my trailer. My viewership is
also going to be mainly women, so they’d
stereotypically be more attracted to male
actors rather than female.
The black and white theme is continuous throughout both pieces of coursework as it denotes connotations
of unawareness ad danger, which are also associated with the genre of my trailer.
