Graffiti Area
As explained earlier, I needed filler scenes for parts that I wanted to
change in my music video. I chose Old Street, a graffiti environment,
because most of its designs are interpretable. It relates to semiotics in
which most narrative music videos have nowadays. Sometimes,
semiotics can also portray narrative. Adding this to my music video
enhances its creativity. There are no restrictions regarding these
locations. However, health and safety should be considered since most
of these wall arts are located on pavements. We should look out for
incoming vehicles before filming.
Will be used in scenes: 10 & 11
I chose this location to
film the following scenes
below. Initially, I thought of
using the library but we
were restricted due to the
place being a silent area
only. We, then, resorted to
the art department. It has
tables and a wide space
which is required to
conduct the following
activity in the said scenes.
Also, I have access to
utilize this room since I
study Art and Design.
Will be used in scenes: 12-15,
23 & 25-28
Since the park is a vast open field with
level-height trees, it creates a crater
surrounding the park. Making the sky
visible with no objects to ruin the view
when you look up. A scene from my
storyboard is inspired by Faded’s
original music video which has a low
angle of Alan Walker looking upwards.
I believe an oceanic sky will be great as
a background on a low angle shot. In
terms of restriction, the park is opened
24 hours.
Will be used in scene: 21, 24, 38-39 and
93
Faded music video
Will be used in scene: 29-35, 48-50,
52-53, 56,59 , 61, 63, 65, 67and 69
Will be used in scene: 51, 54-55, 57-58,
60, 62,64, 66, 68, 70 and 80
Will serve as the female lead’s
room. Stereotypical
representation of femininity
where female lead’s room has a
lot of pink colours.
Will serve as the male lead’s
room. Stereotypical
representation of masculinity
where male lead’s room has a lot
of monochromatic colours.
Will be used in scene: 40-42
The action of waking up
in my narrative signifies
that an ‘exchange of
bodies’ happened
between my main leads.
Other than a bedroom, a
sofa or living room is a
possible location where
people sometimes fall
asleep on. I chose this
location to show realism.
Will be used in scene: 92
A good alternative or
continuation shot to show the
male lead running from study
area.
There was one restriction
regarding the use of this
location.
Since I need to stand on three
or more stacks of chair in
order for the Jesus statue to
be included, I was held back
by one of my teachers due to
health and safety. After
several minutes of pleading,
they allowed me to do so but
with teacher guidance.
I needed a shot of the 6th form
hallway from the outside with a
statue to balance out the elements.
Without the statue, it leaves a void
in the scene which can make it feel
empty.
Both my male and female
lead will have scenes in
this location.
The first group of casts to
use this area is the female
lead and supporting roles
wearing casual dress
code. For the purpose of
easily identifying the
location as
school, I will film using
back-to-the-camera shot
and a front view shot. This
shows the whole hallway
in which most schools
have. Resulting to target
audience engagement. As
the casts will be wearing
rugged casual clothes,
people will not mistake it
as another location (e.g.
company office).
Will be used in scene: 91
Restriction-wise, I will film the second
part at the end of school hours. In
which my male model runs through the
hallway. Thus, no classes will be
disrupted or affected.
Also for the purpose of easily identifying the
location as school. As well as giving a realistic feel
to the audience. It is usually a quiet area during
lesson times. However, I decided to film during
break since it is open and noise is allowed by that
time. Will be used in scene: 43-47
Will be used in scene:
97From the paper questionnaires that
I handed out, one of the people I
surveyed, suggested me to film in
Oxford Street. They also proposed
an idea regarding the ‘meeting
part’ in my narrative and use it in
the said location.
Instead, I decided to use their
proposal in the last part which the
lyrics are ‘the monsters running
wild inside of me’. Moreover, I also
changed the location to Leicester
Square because a number of
people also gather and pass by
here. Standing in a crowd of
people can frustrate them.
Leicester Square is more spacious
than Oxford Street. Thus, less
people would be annoyed.
Firstly, people rarely cross
this bridge. Meaning we
won’t be disturbed during
filming so less time is
consumed. Secondly, the
horizontal and slanted
design of the bridge,
makes it easier for
audience to observe that
each main roles are on
different sides. Lastly,
cinematography will work
well due to the
background: high angle of
road plus sky.
