Load shedding in Pakistan involves the deliberate shutdown of power to prevent failure of the entire power system when demand strains capacity. It can be scheduled according to government announcements or unscheduled. Causes include fewer dams, power theft, overpopulation, high production costs, and corruption. Effects are severe and impact domestic life, education, health services, unemployment, and the economy. Solutions require action at both the citizen level by reducing unnecessary power usage and at the government level by building new energy sources, dams, and ending corruption.
