This document analyzes how Nigerian presidential candidates were represented in selected Nigerian newspapers during the 2011 election. It finds that Goodluck Jonathan, the incumbent president, was represented most frequently and individually, while other candidates were marginalized or collectivized. Jonathan was also functionalized by his position and afforded more extensive positive voice projection than other candidates. The analysis shows an ideological bias in favor of Jonathan and the ruling party in the newspaper coverage of the election.
