The Latvian Trade Union of Education and Science Employees (LIZDA) represents over 31,000 members working in education and science in Latvia. Its mission is to defend the economic, social, and legal rights of its members through social dialogue. LIZDA aims to be the largest and most influential trade union in Latvia by uniting knowledgeable members interested in the education sector. It provides services like legal assistance, funding for accidents and social assistance, and cultural events for its members. In 2012, LIZDA priorities included increasing teacher salaries and preserving rural schools.

1. Interests of members have been defended at the level of the
Government, Parliament, European Union.
2. In the atmosphere of consolidation the funding of 2011 State Budget has
been protected for salaries of the education and science employees.
3. Main necessities of development of working environment of pedagogues
have been identified (conference proposals for the Government
Declaration, evaluation of the model “Money Follows the School Pupil” etc.).
