HIMATIKA ITB is the mathematics student association at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in Indonesia. It was established in 1960 and consists of undergraduate mathematics students at ITB. HIMATIKA ITB aims to foster bonds between its members and the community through various programs, including tutoring elementary students, building a village library, participating in mathematics competitions, and conducting career seminars for members. The association also works to promote mathematics through public outreach events and collaborates with other universities both in Indonesia and abroad.
This event brings many changes in the behavioral mindset, enhance the attitude of these kids,
boost their confidence levels such that the kids get stuck up in the 'Success Triangle', which hopefully helps them to break from the 'Vicious circle of Poverty' in the future

SUMMARY
This report is an account of my association with Kotak Education Foundation, along with
other students of ITM, for two weeks (from 10th November to 22nd November, 2014). It
chronicles all our activities as a team of volunteer interns for Kotak Education Foundation during
the aforementioned period.
Kotak Education Foundation (KEF), an NGO formed in 2007 by Mr.Uday Kotak ( Vice
Chairman and Managing Director, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd), Mrs.Pallavi Kotak and
Mr.Shivaji Dam (Former Director , Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd) , caters to the education and
livelihood needs of the underprivileged section of the society.
In the areas of education KEF has partnered with 30 schools catering to underprivileged students.
In the schools, the foundation teaches spoken English to students of class 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th.
The spoken English program is supported by other programs such as Health, Parenting, School
Teacher's and Principal Development and Scholarship.
Solve Education! is a nonprofit organisation that aims to develop lifelong learning and growth mindset among out-of-school youth and prepare them for the workforce of the future by integrating evidence-based curriculum and employment opportunities in gameplay. Through a mobile game application, out-of-school youth enhance their literacy and numeracy skills, develop life skills, and learn the values of grit, discipline and diligence that prepare them for the workforce of the future and help them adapt to the changing world.

HIMATIKA ITB, is an organization that consists of
undergraduate mathematics college students from Institut
Teknologi Bandung (Bandung Institute of Technology)
Our History
On November 23rd, 1960, HIMATIKA ITB was officially
established. Our Logo is a red triangle with a white stripe on
each side, symbolizes college students, lecturers and alumnus,
working in harmony. Red as a basic color represents
mathematics as the basic science.

How We Work
For current presidency, HIMATIKA ITB divides itself into 4 sections which each of it consist of several
divisions, creating 14 divisions in total. HIMATIKA ITB consists of

3. What We Do?
We see ourselves as an organization strongly dedicated to our values. We
always try to make contribution to the society and our member’s development
as well. HIMATIKA ITB’s activities are including
Community Involvements
Banyuresmi is a village far from city’s
Banyuresmi center in Sumedang, West Java which
majority of its citizen are vegetable and
Village tobacco farmers. Despite of their tobacco
selling success, their education awareness
Project is quite low (majority of the villager do not
make it into senior high school).
HIMATIKA conducted “HIMATIKA
Goes to Village” event twice for
Banyuresmi people and succeeded to
build a library there. Once in three
months, HIMATIKA will visit Banyuresmi
to control this project progress.
HIMATIKA’s Smart House
As a part of Community Development Program, HIMATIKA
ITB is planning to establish a SMART HOUSE whose one of the
goals is to help the children’s education to reach higher
education, hopefully ITB. We have conducted several surveys to
the nearest area, working together with another community
development organization.
4. Forum Kakak Asuh HIMATIKA / FKAH
(HIMATIKA Foster Brother Forum)
HIMATIKA Foster Brother Forum (Forum Kakak Asuh
HIMATIKA in Bahasa or FKAH) is a top program from
HIMATIKA Community Involvement division. This program
is dedicated to elementary school students. The goal of FKAH
is to increase the study quality of the students, to discover their
potency and motivation. It is also as a channel for social
responsibility of HIMATIKA members.

Mathematical It is a program that has been done in every other year since
Challenge Festival 2002 until 2010. MCF ITB is an activity series that consist of
Institut Teknologi mathematics competitions, seminars, and other activities.
MCF’s participants are selected high school students from each
Bandung (MCF ITB)
province in Indonesia. Its goal is to introduce mathematics as a
dynamic science relating with other fields.
5. Mathematics Competitions
Mathematical Contest in Modelling
(MCM)
Together with universities from the United States, China and
Spain, HIMATIKA ITB has successfully achieved Meritorious
Award in Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) 2011 after
competing with 3510 groups from countries around the world.
Moreover, other groups are awarded with Honorable Mention
and Successful Participant.

Tanoto Science Research Competition
HIMATIKA ITB has actively participated in Science Research
Competition, an event held annually and sponsored by
TANOTO Foundation. In this competition, HIMATIKA has
succeeded to introduce “wireless optimizing model”, a model
that can predict proper Wi-Fi modems location in our campus
so that students can get an optimal internet connection.
National Science Olympic
HIMATIKA ITB has actively sent their member to participate
in National Mathematics and Science Olympic for university
students in Indonesia. In 2012, our 3 members: Saaadah Sajjana
Carita, Yosef, Kevin Mandira Limanta, won three bronze
medals.
6. Member Development
HIMATIKA Investment Club (HIC)
Mathematics is a field strongly related with finance thus, also
related with investment. HIMATIKA INVESTMENT CLUB
(HIC) is an investment club that actively initiates and develops
investment activity in HIMATIKA ITB. HIC’s activities are
including economy discussion, internal and external training,
study visit, and promoting investment products. Several of its
members are directly active in stock trading and Forex market.

Career Sharing
In order to give our member a knowledge and illustration about
career world, HIMATIKA ITB routinely invite our alumni to
come and share their knowledge and experiences. They come
from various sectors such as banking, oil and gas industry (apa
lagi ya… ). This also grows our member’s optimism that being a
mathematics student can give them a lot of benefits in their
future career.
7. External Relation
It is very important to us to maintain a close yet professional relationship with
another institution in Indonesia and abroad, in the sake of knowledge exchange
and to maintain a professional relationship.
HIMATIKA ITB has been cooperating with other institutions, including
IKAHIMATIKA Indonesia
HIMATIKA ITB has been actively involved in IKAHIMATIKA
Indonesia, an union that consist of several mathematics student
association in Indonesia. Since 2011, one of our members, Muhammad
Zakaria, has become one of area coordinators in IKAHIMATIKA. We
also contributed in their Community Development programs, for
example, we helped senior high school students in their university exam
preparation by giving them intensive tutorial.
